Obsidian Flow

By Napear on June 30, 2024 5:06 pm

I'm not totally sure this landed where I was aiming... I was hoping for a Phonk/Night Drive track... Really it was just an excuse to make some trap type beats.  But all in all I'm not mad at the track (for now).  Mostly I just needed a break from orchestral work for school, so I figured some softball EDM would sooth my soul.  And it did a bit.

This all done in Logic, and was mostly Massive X patches, though there is also an Analog Dreams and an Ethereal Earth patch for the texture.  The vocals are from some construction kit I got as part of a Humble Bundle like 3 years ago.

The beats are fire and the synth energy is damp and heavy. Great work!

excellent drum skilz n filz with a sinister synth patch that breathes fire around the barrage of beats.

Thanks! I'm still learning the genre, and don't quite have Trap beats nailed down yet, but I'm glad my first stab resonated.

I love that imagery... sinister fire-breathing synths is now my primary sound design goal for any dark synth track I make.

Thanks listening and dropping a comment.

Deep.

Those dirty low synths are dope. Love those vocals way behind too. I need to put bigger wheels on my Ford Flex, drop it and put that on super loud riding on Crescent or the old Mtl... lol.

I'm glad you like them... I have been on a "what is the lowest octave this bass can still sound musical" kick of late... something about a synth that sounds like a caged wild animal from Cyberton is just makes me happy.  Also I love that visual.

yeah, it's hard to make japanese emojis anything but adorable... but he's got a big'ol sword, so you know...

warning = received!

Came for the texture, stayed for the boom and bass. This is my kind of thick noisy deep sound bed it's just awesome, I feel those base lines deep in my skull. I enjoy the vocals - they add interest - but I'm already so engrossed in the rest of the track they're really just ear candy. Soooooo deep. Boom.

This has a really nice outrun vibe to it, the textures sound on the edge of cracking, very nice indeed.

I'm glad you like it.  The textures on this were 100% happy accident... both of the synths I used for it are from NI Play Series, which have in depth controls but are really intended to be more "here are a bunch of presents and macros to quickly dial them in" and I grab one for a pad, and one for keys... while twiddling knobs to see what the macros did, the keys quickly became the pad, and pad became a sub-bass... and everything else just fell into place after that.  Yet another argument for the "Follow the process, not the plan" mantra.

Thanks, I have been on a "distortion for ALL THE THINGS!!" kick of late.  I kind of love using synths right at the edge of where are musical, baselines a half octave above where they are just wubs or clicking noise; resonance right before it starts to self oscillate... There's just something about those "border" sounds that pleases my ear, and I think there are few elements of this track that sit in those kinds of spaces.

Intense! Those dark synths and the trap beat work well together. big_smile

Thanks, I'm really hoping to get better with programming trap drums to spice up some of the midtempo/cyberpunk type things I enjoy making.  The future is CyberPhonk \(〇O〇)/

BIG! Shaking my room and rattling my chest, yesss! Nailing that dubstep with the massive bass and stuttering hats beat.

I'm glad you like it.  I was pretty pleased with how hard the kick hits in this track, though how much of them can be heard depends a lot on the speaker they are played through... despite my best efforts that kick is hardly even audible through phone speakers.  I do love me some ratcheted high hats though... And thanks... it's pretty difficult to make "tough" lookin' emoji characters... (ง •̀_•́)ง   ☜(⩺_⩹ )

It's like soft phonk, a honk perhaps.
