Ok, well, once again, I only had a hand full of hours to work on this one... I wouldn't call it speed trash... but it's nooooooot far from it.  Despite the time crunch, I tried to get back to practicing with hardware driven production.  Still mixed in Logic, with a fair amount of DAW based effects and processing, but all the sounds (except the risers and whooshes) are hardware.

Still not as full a production as I would have liked, but I did get more parts patched up and recorded this week than in my first attempt... so progress.

I hope everyone's week 3 was as good as it can be in these times... I never thought I would long for the world to be more boring... but here we are... jamming because we must.

Whoa! that bass gripped me right away. Love the playful sound selections here!

The older I get, the more boring I like the world.  I long for some slow news days.  But anyway, you've got a nice groove going here and some cool sounds.  That synth line that comes in around 0:39 is pretty sweet.

I don't know what it is about theremin-style high pitched leads, but I just love them so much. Real nice work here. Dark and ominous energy, mysterious, and super fun. Great!!!!

great sounds out of the virus on this track! And appreciate the production notes! I keep eyeballing the pizza and just love bastl stuff generally

"Progressive vegetarian synthcore", lol. If that cowbell part you mentioned is the higher register synth sound that's panned to the left, it reminds me so much of Aphex Twin and I love it. Appreciate the production details wink

Ti2 sounds so good and those melodies 💥Vibin to this one

That bass is interesting! The texture sets it appart

Like those kinda of leads as well ^^

The flanged percussive sounds are really cool too

Love how the virus sounds on those leads.  The solo leads are super catchy. The intro gave me some metroid vibes too heart

listened on repeat in the phones while i scrambled some eggs this morning. gotta say, they turned out REALLY GOOD! as did this killer jam!

also #sorrynotsorry  big_smile

Love that theremin lead. Very evocative. I love the moving stereo field on the the bass. Metroid Prime vibes.

This is dope! Love how the sounds draw you in. That bass is amazing!

This is a really cohesive composition.

Nice mix as well.

Great track and choice of sounds, immediately got my attention, the lead synth glides over the track and the plucky arps and bass keep things grounded.  Will have to revisit bastl pizza in vcv rack, cheaper that way!

Thanks, I definitely spent the bulk of my time on the bass sound... still a long way to go in dialing in sounds that I'm happy with quickly, but what else is WB for if not "puttin' in the reps" (╹ꇴ◠)

Right!?  And thank you, I spend a bunch of time trying to make that lead sound not be too shrill, but I find I always tend to fixate on sounds like that... I'm glad I didn't "overwork it"

Thank you, yeah I tend to gravitate towards very portamento sounds like that too... that and bells... not sure why exactly.

Pizza's a dope module, I was delighted to find out that they added it to VCV Rack as a free module earlier this year.  I'm a sucker for FM sounds to begin with, and Pizza abstracts a lot of the FM fussiness away in favor of more exploratory controls... but it's just got a ton of sweet spots, and takes modulation well... and what more can you ask for really.

I think the sound your talking about might be the plucks from the Virus, which is my personal favorite sound from the pallet, mostly just a Virus preset, but once I put it into a delay I totally just got lost in it.  The cowbell is more the sound that bounces around center, and kinda sounds like a mouth harp, it's pretty prominent around ~1:03... but the LFO on the pitch makes it very much not sound like a cowbell...

Thanks, I kinda had to lean into melody for this one, largely because I just didn't have a ton time to work out complex harmonies or super deep sound design, so, I'm glad it created a vibe.

Thanks, getting sound design going for tracks like this is one of the primary focuses I have for this year... and what's the overly motivational personal trainer phrase... "practice makes progress"

Hey thanks.  That lead sound was one where I was just flipping through the ROM sounds in the Virus, and I found myself loosing time to just playin around with it, and I was like "well, if I've spent like 5 minutes just noodling with the sound, it's gotta be good enough for the track"

I'm glad it turned out well, there's nothing quite like good eggs.  I'm also happy the jam was well received... and let me tell you, the rabbit hole that you're J37 plugin sent me on... like multiple evenings of tape sim review and comparison videos... totally worth it... but the YouTube algorithm was like "oh this person only wants to watch White Sea Studio videos for the rest of eternity" (˃̣̣̥▽˂̣̣̥)

Thanks, I wasn't sure about the movement on the bass... it was definitely an accident to start with (I was trying to move an effect around and just dropped it on the wrong track), but I do think it ended up giving some character.

Thank you so much, I really need to spend more time with my Pizza module, like it just take modulation so well, and is capable of just crazy wildness.

I appreciate that, I felt like I really rushed the mix, and I mean I don't know if I've been "happy" with a mix, but I fretted over this one quite a bit, so I appreciate the compliment.

Yeah!!! I was so stoked that they added the to VCV Rack, hopefully the add in Basil too... but the fact that Instruo, Bastl, and Befaco make any of their hardware emulations available for the low low price of free is just so awesome.

Kinda sounds like a vibed out Theremin.
I dig it!

"Jamming because we must" smile

Cool track! The more ambient sounds buried in the back of the mix really glue this track together.

Yeah, I have a portamento problem... Like so much so that I often have multiple modules on slew limiter duty when I build complex patches... but it just sounds so neat!

The mix for this one was tricky, still trying to get my brain wrapped around pulling character out of hardware, and using effects to get more layers and complexity, but this one really felt like progress.

Nice beat, and love the sparkles. There's that bass!
