04 Weekly Beats Week Log

YRU SO AFRAID?
REcorded in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

This week's was an idea that came up towards the end of last year. Enjoyed recording this and doing a different style. I'm surprised I have this inside me. I don't really listen to music this heavy. OK Scowl recently, but that's been actually more this year, since after I had this idea.

Did over a few sessions this week. Keyed in drums and bass Wednesday. Recorded guitars and vocals Thursday(?) afternoon. Did the edits and mixes on Sat eve and Sun morning.

Influences
I'm feeling 'gaia bleeds (make way for man)' by Set Your Goals on the main riff. Hint of Rolo Tomassi.
Buddy Nielsen of Sense Fail for the screams. Primo screamo.

Been kinda cool learning a bit about mixing. I learned how to copy over EQs. I learned about pitch shifting stuff aswell. Although to be honest I think I would like to spend more time on the writing of the songs and becoming a better songwriter, performer, and musician. Still, cool to learn a bit more about how sounds are created and crafted in the studio and to know about possibilities.

Enjoying the weekly beats process so far this year. Have had a lot of fun and feels good to be making music. Although I wanna play live, I do still enjoy working on songs.

Working in iterations works really well for me.
Get a skeleton and some rough stuff down then bounce out an mp3. Send to self on telegram and listen on my phone whilst out and about and take notes and write to dos for the song in the telegram chat. Go through those and make edits. Bounce out again and so on. Effective/

With more time I would've recorded another line of lyrics. Wrote some hungover in the steam room Saturday morning but didn't get around to recording them. 'Don't forget it is all a big game'.
An idea for some extra gang vox I thought would be fun in sync with the slamming chords at the end of each chorus line.
ALso would've tried to make the parts at the end of the chorus lines with maybe a few different rhythms, lines possibly with extra notes or different chords.

I recorded at an even higher BPM, guitars are sloppy. I would maybe re-record them tighter.

An extra verse/chorus? I had one and chopped it. Would've maybe been more justified if I had recorded alternate lyrics and the added vocals.

Ideas For Future
Maybe bringing some screams into the punk tracks? Mix with rap?
What do you think?

Alright looking forward to next one!

100% Yes!

The vocals sound so good in the mix! You should be proud of this, I get some maaajor Fall of Troy vibes from this! Hell yeah. Awesome work

Ooh! Great screaming!!!!!!!!! A++++++

It sounds savage! Great work. For some reason it reminded me to Billy Talent.

killer!

Great production on this one. Screams sound awesome. The single+doubled guitars at :30 land really well. It could be because it's first thing in the morning and my ears are still waking up, but to me the overall mix high-end was a bit harsh. Awesome job!

Just a bit afraid...

that rocks hard. Last time I went to Thailand was 17 years ago, I am one of those stupid tourist that had a motorcycle accident.

This was very enjoyable, not much like this on weekly beats, great to hear something different, your vocals are fantastic

Oh damn son, this goes hard. I could listen to a whole album of this.

vocals remind me of charlie fell (an all time fav of mine). Enjoyed this!

HARD!!!

Screams are good, just take care of your voice. If you do though, I don't think lyrics really matter since they're hard to comprehend without read along text anyway, so it's more about pitch and intonation than anything.

Thanks, these are 'faux' screams, performed quietly but with intensity, I think it's a 'sustainable' way to scream haha.
