Thank you all for your listening and your comments and suggestions and listening. I have really learnt a lot in weekly beats from trying out and incorporating things that have been suggested to me. Has been awesome.

ALL FEEDBACK ON SONG, MIX, PERFORMANCE, SONGWRITING ETC WELCOME

Hoof I'm tired at the upload. This week and last I've been tired by Sunday eve sesh time.

I was working on another one this eve but it needed more time so at the last I came back to this one. Came from a riff with a new buddy Carlos. A Mexican who was passing through and we met at an open mic a few weeks ago. We met for a jam and started recording a song. This week we met up again and started jamming with the idea to have more material for our song and this came up. Basically a completely different song haha. I liked it so I decided to use it for this weeks Weekly Beats.

Started on Saturday, a session intended just to get drums and bass down. I managed to get the guitars and synth down too. Carlos had an awesome synth sound and line when we were jamming but I couldn't recreate so I just did something else. So today circling back to it I just did some vocals and chopping and mixing.

I'm feeling Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Its Blitz era), Horrors, Death Cab For Cutie.

I like it and had lots of fun playing this.
The synth added a lot in atmosphere and ambience and was super simple.
Great to do a different genre than my usual wheelhouse and something dancey. I danced a lot whilst recording this, it was great haha.
I did a double bass thing which I think sounds great, a light fuzz and a clean driving one.
Was great to enter the studio with an idea with different parts ready to get down. I had video from the jam with Carlos so I watched it back when came to record.

EBI
I'm not too keen on the second guitar lead. It sounded way better in the jam version but didn't quite work when I came to record.

IFF
Use drummers from different genres and beats and use them as a starting point, it switches up my playing in a good way and going for things which I don't usually do and using them I think could make for some interesting combinations.

whoa man! This is so catchy and those doubled vocals and the melody you're singing. So. good. Favoriting.

Thank you! Had a lot of fun with this one smile

Wow! This one has such a deft touch to it. Great texture, but so clean. Main riff is perfect - simple and catchy. Love your vocals, really amazed at how you can effortlessly drop into different styles. Only complaint is that it’s too short! Hope you can fill this out to the 4+ minutes it needs. Great job!

Dude, this KICKS ASS! I'm not sure I can pin it closely to any genre I've heard before, this sounds so friggin fresh!!! Very dope! Please, source some more of this from whatever barrel you got it in, hahahaha...

Thanks so much! For all the kind words. I had a lot of fun with this, will try to finish this off as a full track, thanks for the encouragement.

Aww shucks, thank you! Hahaha I will try to stay close the barrel and do more stuff like this, its not my usual style but I really enjoyed it. smile

This is a great start for a song - cuz I'm gonna echo Paisley and say I want more! Its also great cuz youve got all the pieces there - if i was working on something like this I'd be so jazzed cuz I know all the pieces are here and they are really tight and doing what they need to. You should absolutely expand this into a full song. Or hell, the centrepiece of an album.

One bit of critical feedback; the mix here is very wide and really only the drums are getting focus in the centre of the stereo image. The pad sound (gorgeous!), the guitar and the vocals all have this swirling stereo-panned flanger chorus thing going on thats dulling their upper frequencies and causing them to get lost in the space. Something to come back to when you come back to this track, its awesome!

dang, was not expecting that! this is great. love the drum sound so much, and your melodies are really strong heart

agree with neon that panning might be something to play with.

also would not be mad about an extended version. I could hear a chorus section where the vocal moves into a little higher range and dials up the intensity a bit.

but also, this works really well as it is and leaves the listener (hi,it me) wanting more. excellent work to you & Carlos!

Very cool track. I like your tone over all. You've nailed something very cool.

For feedback, I think you can bring that kick forward a bit. You loose the transient a bit when the track is going. perhaps a hint of parallel compression might do the trick or just making space in your mix for it. I think you have a nice groove for this song and the kick helps set the pace and lock people in. Never underestimate a good punchy kick to move people.

Your drone is a great atmospheric element that holds the mood of the song but maybe having a bit of a volume drop to make extra room in parts will help emphasizes your sections and give more space to your other instruments. I also might do a light roll off the bass frequencies a bit too to help the bass cut more. It might help emphasize your groove between the kick and the bass more.

Quality song build though! Keep it up. Learning is what it's all about. You got a great way of thinking about it. I'd give you more but I am on my shitty monitors today tongue

When I say roll off I mean for the drone. Just to be accurate in my language tongue
