Chubby Disgrace

By myfirstpunksong on February 27, 2022 6:10 pm

Recently got a bit obsessed with Chubby and the Gang and wanted to do something fast with a pinch of Chubby's rough aggression. Lead guitar line and bass by friend Rupret.

Done in 3 sessions. 1. Recording rhythm guitars 2. Tweaking guitar sounds and some chops 3. Recording vocals and some chops.

What went well:
- First draft down early in the week.
- Again, having a bounce to listen back to on my phone to think about what to do next, other ideas etc.
- I didn't get obsessive with this one, its been moving week.
- I spent a session just creating a couple custom guitar sounds. Any feedback on those welcome.

Even better if:
- I would've taken a bit more time overall. I'm learning the limited time is part of the nature of the beast with weekly beats, however, I still think I could've carved out a little more. A couple more sessions maybe where I just sit down to work on the track, even if only for a short amount of time (which usually then turns into longer).
- I had more of the overall idea with structure and vocals sorted before sending over to a friend. He sent me back a couple lead lines, but then when I recorded vocals, the lead lines just didn't really work so I cut them.

Additional notes:
I'll leave Berlin for a few weeks now, but this WB project has been good for me to think about a space where I can record vocals. This is something to consider about my future living space, or renting a separate space to do this.

Cool song! Really dig what I think is the chorus from about :44 to :58 The stereo image in this one sounds really great when the second guitar comes in at 0:09! Some constructive feedback, though: I think with the panning of the vocals, when you only have the single vocal going on, the song sounds pretty tilted over to the left side. Nice job getting going early in the week. Cheers!
