Brand New Nuthin'

By myfirstpunksong on February 6, 2022 8:38 pm

Recorded in 2 sessions. Friday night (K&MJ) and Sunday afternoon.

I would not like to comment on the quality of my output, but I can say is that I am loving the process that weekly beats has opened up for me. I have motivation to get in the 'studio', then I get sucked in and spend time playing and creating music and invariably love it. It's funny the feeling that can arise when working on a track. It's like nothing else matters.

What went well:
- Started working on this weeks track earlier in the week. Big plus, more time overall playing music. Had started recording a song on maybe Tuesday(?), and as I worked on it I realised I quite like some of it and would like to spend more time on it. So I pulled another old thing out that I'm less precious about and just ploughed ahead recording it. Look forward to going back to work on the first track.

To be improved:
- Vocals are rough as hell.  Melodies definitely could've done with work. Perhaps send out early bounces and invite suggestions from friends in future. This was first take.
- Again, need to find a suitable time/place where I can comfortably belt them out and work on them.  Maybe try working on melodies to bounces whilst out on the bike.
- Would've been nice to add more variation to the lead guitar part, at least at the very end.

Additional Notes:
It was really helpful having a bounce to listen to and think about melodies and lyrics. I had something very rough down on Friday and then listened through my phone on Saturday when I went out to do some shopping.

I have noticed that I love doing songs that just get heavier as they progress. Like a continual gradual crescendo. I've used it a few times, I just love listening to the sound get bigger and bigger.

I feel the same way as you about weekly beats. My home studio turned into my home office, and that made it a bit of a chore to get out there for fun. But weekly beats got me back into it, and I'm loving it too. I'm glad to see other people doing rock stuff on here. I like the intro lead lick. It's simple, but it's got a nice little hook to it that's almost like a siren. Nice job, keep it up!

It is easier to do nothing than doing stuff that we like to... Weekly beats is a push in the back that says: you can do a little something, some people might listen to it and it is actually fun!

I really like the not a fuck given punk rock attitude, this is good energy to me. I am impressed about how some people here are able to do quite "polished" songs in just a couple sessions, in the end I think it is about getting some more efficient workflows, and just go for it. Rock, or punk is great to be able to let go loads of imperfections and get away with it. This is probably why this is as well my go to genre...

Rock on!

Yeah its great, got me playing more regularly. I kept coming back to 'I need more music in my life' over the last year or so, so its nice that its manifesting!

Yeah its good to have some other rockers around smile

Yeah WB is a nice push to have... that turns into fun!

Yeah, the punk rock attitude is great for putting out sloppy, or should I say 'unpolished' stuff. Gives total permission to be as rough and raw and ready as you like, and just play. I'm drawn to that also for vocals, which I feel uncomfortable with singing. But in punk, I can shout, and anythings fair game!

I like your thought about getting more efficient workflows and going for it. Hell yeah.
Rock til I die!

great track, i'm catching up with your tracks out of order, but it's cool to hear how your mixing has improved week after week!
