DEVIO

By mukti on December 5, 2024 3:20 am

This week I started building a track that was giving me Massive Attack vibes. I played with it a bunch to get a nice bassy sound, but didn't know how to make it into a fuller track. I figured I'd try to put some lyrics to it, so I took some bits I have in a note on my phone about "Laminar Flow" and affecting change when without being seen, and recorded them for this track. I don't really like the sound of the vocals, but didn't know how to clean them up and make them more interesting. If I have some time, I may redo them with festival again. I have a busy end to my week, so had to wrap this up early and didn't get to develop it as much as I'd like. Even though its a bit rough, please give me some constructive feedback!

While the original idea was for a song called "Laminar Flow," I kept to my theme and found the Esperanto word for "deviation," devio.

eerie and a bit haunting, especially for laminar flow. Nice work

It's like the theme song of a gremlin.

I think for what came out your vocals are actually pretty rad. How did you process them?

I think a running repeating synth line could be cool on this. Sounds rad as is though.

Thanks! It was a combination of Sai'ke's Final Boss JSFX Reaper plugin and Chow Tape Model with a bit of pitch shifting as well. If I did it again, I think I'd try to soften the voice a bit to make it mesh woth the track a bit more.
