Kathy's Voicemail

By MRDRCAT on July 14, 2024 3:00 pm

My supervisor has the thankless task of interacting with the public so we don't have to. She got a voicemail last week that was nothing but a disgusted sigh, so of course I had to attempt a track using nothing but that voicemail as my sound source. Everything in this track is from that recording, from the percussion to the bird sounds to the (quite enjoyable) lead synth that comes in around the halfway point. I might have cheated on the lead, since it's literally a single cycle of the voicemail waveform, but I think it counts. It's not art, but it sure was fun. Thank you, Person-Who-Just-Wanted-To-Talk-To-A-Human-For-Once!
100% Dirtywave M8, leaning on the new instrument EQ in Firmware 4.0 for added sound shaping. You can download the bundle if you like.

That was great! Particularly enjoyed the drums, so nice and crispy, but all the sounds are legit great…and very much in your style! Art or no, it’s lots of fun!

haha amazing
*sigh*

I am in awe of the fact that this was done all using ONE single sample!!! Incredible, hahahaha... I'm definitely looking into the bundle for this one later. I really like how flowy & airy the reverb makes this feel, it sounds super fun. The lead melody at 1:17 sounds great! It very much has the MRDRCAT touch which makes it super playful and lighthearted. Great work!

Ha ha thank you everyone! I was really surprised at the number of different sounds I managed to squeeze out of that one sample. If I had more time to think about it...it would probably sound the same. But it was a lot of fun to cook up!
Jegasus, by all means dive in - I'll probably be using the snare and single-cycle lead again in the future smile
