Hooked On Mnemonics

By MRDRCAT on June 29, 2024 3:13 pm

Nonsense title, nonsense track. I wasn't feeling it this week and ended up with a 16-bar something that I just had to work with since I had no other ideas to start. Things finally congealed when I added the beepy lead, and I forced myself to come up with a second theme it could play (which ended up being the first one you hear since the original was stronger). Added more vocal samples from Cindy Goes To a Party at the very last minute. Fixed maybe half of the bum notes but hopefully it moves enough so most people won't notice. Still basic but I no longer hate it.

Damn, this track starts HARD.

Absolutely clicks into place when the bleep starts playing against the harsh lead tone, and then takes off at the 1:30 mark or so when those two lines start to bop and weave. Good stuff!

Samples were a great last minute add, that little bit of variety is perfect - and funny. “Oooh, what a mess!”

I really like that bleepy lead melody, and the sounds used are great all round! Good job. smile

god i love how the drums trip over themselves coming in (that's when the party really gets going)! this is so fun and sounds great

I was just preparing some desserts for a BBQ in my kitchen and I left my phone playing some random WBs. A few moments into this song, I told my wife "I think I know who this is!" I ran to my phone and was very happy to see that I was right! I think it was something about the higher pitched melodic line that gave it away, hahahaha... Awesome job, super fun!

Ha ha thank you! I was so happy that those samples worked in context and was THRILLED to find "Ooooh, what a mess!" I did try to switch up the harsh tone for a more analogue sounding synth and botched the whole thing. Glad I still have this WAV file...

As someone who feels out of their depth with sound design, thank you!!

I love garage rock and always want to dirty up patches, percussion, etc. with tape saturation and timing slop. I have a lot of fun with samples of acoustic percussion and strive for that "MrdrCat's only our drummer because they got a kit for Christmas and none of our moms will let us practise" vibe.

SWEET! I have a STYLE! This tickles me to no end - if nothing else, I strive to be predictable big_smile
