Chatty Piano (Chatless Version)

By MRDRCAT on April 28, 2024 6:46 pm

I don't have time to add it, but the idea of this one is to have some silly running commentary through the whole thing. Since it's a pretty simple song, I wanted to include a voice throughout talking about what's going on, lampshading a couple of my often-used tricks, and generally "interacting" with the music. I have most of the vocals recorded, but not enough time to sprinkle them into the mix and time everything correctly.

Here's the backing track, right out of the M8. Not sure what else to do with the music itself, so I'm calling it 98% done. The piano is a lovely 88-slice multisample from Trash80, and the drums sampled from Korg Gadget's Gladstone. Everything sequenced in the M8 of course.

Hey, look at that! It my fren! Hi fren smile
Hahahaha... This is super fun, I'm always amazed at how uplifting and playful your tunes are. This sound like such a great use of the M8 and this piano samples. Awesome job!

I love the vocal concept you described, but this track is fun all on its own! A lot of the tones had a great “rubbery” feel to them, which played really nicely with that piano sound. Really liked the piano line, too…very different from what you’ve used before, and there were cool ornamentations and voicings going on with it.

Well hi! Thanks - I have a soft spot for catchy pop, so I'm always chasing something fun...or dark and experimental. No middle ground!

Thanks! The vocal concept is still evolving and will eventually saturate the track. Hopefully it doesn't completely cover the actual music. It was fun trying to "play" a realistic sounding piano with a tracker. Now that this multisample is back on my radar, I'm hoping I can incorporated it into more tracks. It's really fun to work with and sounds great! (I think it lends a nice, undeserved feel of legitimacy to my work wink )

wild and positively crowded... reminds me of a couple of cats playing around... short breaks punctuating the more active bits. Cool stuff...

That piano is really nice, it has some accents of cocktail jazz at some points but the bass and the vocoder like sounds take it into a whole different direction, or dare I say "universe". It went from jazz bar to 8 bit platformer, with a nice vibe. And then did a quick break around 1:18 as the hero stumbled upon a grand piano in the midst of a level.

What a fun track! smile

Packed full of goodies! Looking forward to a potential revisit with commentary! Love those slide notes

Hey! This is awesome!
