sink or swim

(insert usual caveat about lack of time)

Vocal sample saved my butt on this one.

I had only put together some bars with chords, drums and a plucky melodic thing before I looked at splice in panic. This was the first sample that showed up when searching for female vocals (except it was the wet version and I always go with the dry one) and thought it fit well. Made an edit to a part of it in melodyne to create a variant that I liked.

Then it's just bookended by an uneasy atmospheric sample I made in the S4 when testing the workflow just to include it.

This is dope! Great choice of of vocals. The stuttery synthc chords are super fun too. I feel yah on the lack of time thing -- it's hard to make beats when it's sunny outside!

Love the unapologetical cheesiness (pardon my French) of this.

This sounds great! It's obviously way too short. With what you've got here you can easily extend it to 3.5 minutes without writing any new music. Add two more different ideas and you've got a 6 to 7 minute track here that could really build and become hard hitting. Like for example, add some rolling 909 snares in there in one section and this will turn into fire quite easily. So yeah, fantastic stepping stone for a full tune, which I hope will happen one day!

Vocals are clean and crisp and those synth arps sound excellent.  The mix sounds great too and gave me some car commercial vibes like I'm watching a sleek new car get introduced smile

Great mix, everything sound loud, at the correct place. Great female samples, it is a very cool short track.

Vocal added but didn't save it, there was plenty here to make a  great track already! The S4 atmosphere into the trance gate synth sounded *great*, that's a fantastic motif for a trance track all on its own, and then fuck around with that vocal and its golden. I wish I could produce 90 seconds of great ideas so quickly lol heart

now we are all swimming, nice work!

Everythings so solid. The gated synth is awesome and everything else meshes so perfectly.

thank you! unfortunately I cant blame the sun. I dont like heat and live in Los Angeles where we only really have warm or cooler summer year round. its unfortunately mainly work leaving time for little else. appreciate you listening

thanks a lot. its a bit of a skill issue for me extending this for that long and I suppose I don't hold myself to a high enough standard for length. kind of sucks that I think job done when its over a minute but I think I'll get there later this year after a few more reps.

It's what sets apart the good from the great. The amateur from the professional. The latter can confidently milk a segment for all it's worth. And gets out just before it grows stale. While the ones with less confidence bail out of their idea before it has had a chance to mature.

Music is all about repetition. And repetition legitimizes. So,in many ways, you want to do as little as possible to keep the track interesting. Let it grow and develop, but also trust your main groove, or main idea. If that's good, it can carry you far. And the more you let it carry you, the further it will carry you.

You've got this! Now just do it.
