one magic night

By monstret on June 7, 2026 10:38 pm

edit: as suspected the mix was more dense than I had hoped.
Soundcloud version with some adjusted levels.

This week started as a 11/8 time signature experiment. drums are a bit all over the place but if you like wonky it might be up your alley! The hat sounds like a metronome.

I do like some of the melodics elements but im going to guess the mix is a bit messed up. had to speed submit as I ran out of time before we needed to leave for the movies.

hope everyone had a good week 23! Upwards and onwards

Oh I love this. Firework sound effects make such a celebratory atmosphere, and the 11/8 feel works with that so well. Fantastic job making that time signature work!! It’s like you’re looking around every five seconds seeing something new happening. It’s a party.  This gives me a feeling of hope!

Mix is maybe a little stuffy, yeah. Wondering if you have a bit too much going on in the 500-800Hz range. Already love this. Give it a bit of clarity and this track will be a-ma-zing. heart

Thank you so much mr. Frog. The gamble didn't pay off with the mix for sure. Uploaded a less dense version to Soundcloud but far from perfect. A project for next if it survives the look-back.

Listening to the SC version.

I love the intro up that first 'tonight' sample is just magical. That first 'tonight' sample feels very loud at that spot. Then the drums come in, and they don't feel quite right to me. To me they suck out the momentum, rather than adding to it. Which could be remedied with a complementary layer, like a bass line, that fills in the gaps in the drums. But it could also be additional percussion or whatever. But something ties the drum notes together a bit more. When the drums go away again the stuff is lovely and sweet once again.

The overall vibe and feel of this tune is just great!!

Really cool using 11/8 and the clock ticking effect is a cool play on the timing of the drums.  Feels like I'm flying through a fireworks display smile a lovely lullaby-like outro too.  Well done!

Lovely tune, amazing mood and vocal too, it fits so well!! heart

You make this seem effortless, great job!
Loved the atmosphere and harmonization.

The list of songs in 11/8 the internet spit out is intimidating! This was a great experiment and the lightly shifting groove it gave this track is very danceable, it sounds great. Your mix listens just fine and for the purposes of WB if you're not damaging headphones you're golden, which is to say mix issues are best left for when you go back to a WB track later - not worth spending too much time on the mix in a panic. "Good enough" is a hard lesson to learn but a very valuable one for WB and this song is wayyyy beyond "good enough", its excellent heart

The fireworks are for sure a hit. This is totally a vibe. Well done!

listened on SC, really cool track. these fireworks are much more pleasant to hear than the friggin mortars these maniacs are lighting off around here (and which will continue well past July 4).
i like how the reverb on the synth lead fades away, like smoke dissipating into the air

The top e-Pianos are so pretty.

Very nice!

Maybe mix could improve a bit depending of the final aesthetic you are going for, but really it sounds great at is it.

This is something we learn on those weekly beats that 80% there in not that much time is already pretty good. And if after a couple more listen there are some elements that you'd like to clean up, this is great, project can always be re-opened and tweaked a bit.

Love the interesting beat! Great synth/key tones as well

I love that people are breaking into odd time signatures. My brain is loving the novelty of all this. Great stuff.

I am so here for the funky drums smile. This is so good! Such an uplifting atmosphere and feeling of nostalgia. Love how the vocal sample sits in the mix and the melodic elements heart

Thanks for checking it out (and SC version especially) and the constructive notes. Interesting note regarding the gaps between the drums - didn't think about that but will have another listen. I gotta say I had a heck of a time doing anything drum related on this so I opted for something on 8ths that is just like a metronome and then tried to stick the kick on selected downbeats. I can't say I spent too much time on trying to figure it out / try alternatives cause I never find drum programming to be the most fun.

That's probably a sign that I should focus on that especially one of these WB weeks. Thank you again!

Thank you TM. Slightly embarrassed but always happy that you check in on my noodles. You're an inspiration

I made myself laugh by imagining you thinking what feedback to write and decided to make "this sounds like you've made no effort" more ambiguous. Thanks for listening and the lovely note.

Wait, is 11/8 music common? I should find some good ref for a future track ><   Thank you so much for listening, the advice (that's very SOUND advice, AHAHAHAHAHAHA) and the encouragement.

Thank you very much, mister. Doubly thanks for listening on SC. I hear you on the fireworks, I think they have banned fireworks in my area of California due to fire risks but that doesn't stop people. One of my friends that live nearby says he feels like he's in Falluja when new years eve or Fourth of July comes around.
