It's Been a Lot

If you're familiar with the Deluge, you know that its creator made the firmware open source a few years ago. With the release of the latest stable version, the dev team held a preset-making contest. This happened last year but I just discovered it this week.

I downloaded the presets and immediately checked out the winner: Mark Young's Saumur Piano. The notes say, "Saumur Piano is a public piano that sits outside all summer next to the Loire. Samples were recorded by hand and used to make the preset."

It sounds much as you'd expect. I used the tuned version of the preset. I love how ambient conversations and dishes clanking can transport one sonically.

Once I loaded it, I just wanted to make something pretty. The other two sounds come from the great Boards of Deluge presets by Krzysztof Stęplowski.

Thank you!

Sounds great! Very atmospheric. The snippets of conversations and rinkling dishes are indeed a nice detail. Is there also some traffic in the background? I think compositions like this always have something magical.
