Again this week, all Deluge, all from a single sound - this time, a few seconds-long recording of me chucking a piece of ICE/snow into a metal trash bin.

You can hear the brief source recording at the end of the track, at about 1:44.

The track is slow and bittersweet.

I had the least time yet to work on this one, so unfortunately it is some sound design, a series of ideas using those sounds, and not super substantial compositionally. But what is there, I like. I especially like the kick, the snare, and the timpani-like bass.

Notes:

• (re)discovered adjustable loop points for sustaining samples, though the Deluge doesn't seem to let you customize the fades. Still, you can zoom in to the sample level to adjust the start/end points, which is great.

• hit the voice limit but easily fixed that by reducing voices on one of the two pads and slapping a little chorus on it instead. Not the same, but also no biggie.

• totally cheated on the second pad by making an extremely short loop, resampling it and making that a new synth. Kinda takes the uniqueness and challenge out of the "all one sample" approach, but there were hella overtones in the pitched portion of the original can recording.

Sad Downside of Holding Weekly Beats in Even Years: OLYMPICS! I love them! I love seeing humans throw their whole selves at excellence. I love all of it - the obscure stuff and the mainstream stuff, too. And Vance being booed at the opening ceremony.
