beat the suite

By Mockq on February 9, 2026 12:01 am

I had an idea for a beginning and let it play by an ableton string quartett sample and just developed it further to transform variations of the string theme into digital synths and beats. And at the end i like it, knowing a lot of aspects i could or should further improve. I have no idea of it fits into any genre and if you have an idea, just let me know or just enjoy!

The progression is surprising at first and it feels like there are 2 songs in 1, but then you call back the strings and it makes the whole piece coherent again.

I would suggest to try a different drum kit and look for more organic sounding drums.

Back to the intro, the rhythm is a bit monotonous (is it all only eighth and quarter notes?) and maybe a bit of contrast with longer bass notes would help creating a more cohesive strings ensemble. After a second listen, it actually creates a certain tension that gets somehow released when the beat comes in.

Overall, it's a cool arrangement that develops over the length of the track, and although it sounds a bit thin, it still has character.

I dig how the chord voicing grows over the first minute, and there's some neat FM-ish sounds in there. I like how you tie the whole thing together towards the end, too.

Thank you Dadboy for your compliment
