Weeping Stories

Just finished the track, feeling relieved! Wasn't sure what to call it, so I looked at some thoughts I wrote this week about how sometimes we get emotional from fictional stories. It happened a few times last week. We humans like our stories. Occasionally a song has the same effect when it triggers a memory or emotion. Then there's reality. The true stories that are harder to hear and believe than fiction.
It's important to not go numb. Fictional stories, music, and art which responds to and mirrors the truth can bring the feels we need and help us understand. It sometimes feels strange or wrong to escape in stories, but we need them.
I hope creating music and whatever stories you encounter in your lives brings the feels you need and helps you through this week!
About the track:
This was a Saturday morning handpan improvisation session. A good escape therapy jam for sure. Hard to decide what to do with that 45 minute recording. Listening to the jam made me want to get better at improvising and landing on a good part, then holding on to it for a while and really solidifying it before moving away to something else. Or maybe it's ok to bounce around too.
Woke up today and decided what to do with it: in the mood for chill beats. Looped the parts I liked best today. Tapped drums out on the Push. Did the synth harmonies and bass mostly by converting handpan to midi and then editing, nice and fast. Made some quick decision on sounds. Thought about going back to older similar tracks to find out what sounds I previously used and replicate here for consistency. A good idea for another time maybe. Accomplished goals of not overthinking or editing too much, stopped adding new parts, took listening breaks.
An anecdote about decision making:
So each weekly song is about making decisions. So is work, life, etc. Decision making may be the skill I'm most grateful to the WB journey for improving. I met with my boss this week. She said she likes that I can help the more creative, non-linear thinkers on our teams get organized and made decisions because I'm more logical and linear. I laughed and told her I am far from the logical linear type. I have just learned to reign in the free wheeling creative brain and make decisions by, among other things, making weekly songs!
