Somnambulatory Gazing

By miraclemiles on October 9, 2022 9:20 pm

Playing with various sounds in Ableton, jamming on the Push. At one point thought I'd go for more of a hip hop beat, but the sounds pulled me in other directions. Then I heard the them for this week's Disquiet Junto was to make music to fall asleep to, and that sounded fun. So I made a sleepy mellow track from my sounds called Stargazing Sheep. Then I decided for the WB version, I'd bring it back upbeat a little more, kind of a waking from sleep, but actually still dreaming, maybe sleep walking outside to gaze at the stars, or flying among them.
Main melodic sounds from ukelele sampled instruments by Brian Funk, and handpan sampled instruments. Recorded some e-drums live and unquantized off the grid and in different tempo, but I thought it worked. Then this mellows a little, a distant new melody transitions to outdoor space. Nature sounds from freesound.org, Guz99.

This version is for sure a little too energetic to fall asleep to, but I can hear the tones that would be inviting to sleep to in here.  As it is I get the feeling of being in the middle of a windy storm, which then starts to pass when the mellow melody enters, although I can still hear the storm rumbling off in the distance.

when the track started I had a feeling of a persian instrument that was playing, but then it got confusing and I could not keep this picture. tons of stuff to concentrate on. I enjoyed the relaxed outro of the song.

I like how this goes in many directions with the different sound elements yet remains still focused on the twinkly ukelele that starts the track, nice use of the nature sounds.

I like this picture, The storm raging them passing. I suppose I have been thinking about the hurricane a lot these past weeks too, hearing all the destruction, so tragic.

Yes it does get quite crazy. I'm not sure the drums work out so well after all, but an experiment for sure. I have a long version of the relaxing outtro part here: https://soundcloud.com/miraclemiles/stargazing-sheep-disquiet0562, much less going on there smile

Thanks, yeah I liked the ukelele sound a lot, glad it could anchor things down a little.

I love all the shimmery sounds here, and in such a cavernous space, feels like floating through a cloud of tiny crystals that are tuned harmoniously so that as you crash through them they all form a brilliant chord-like mass of sound collisions heart

Lovely imagery your bring up here, Love it. All about floating through the crystally clouds and grooving with the storms.

so soothing until the dissonance and compressor CRONCH come in! love it. those resonant noise bug sounds that come in around 3 minutes are dope too.
