Me, You, and Alice

By miraclemiles on February 25, 2018 9:32 pm

It started with - as many great things do - a meeting in a Value Village parking lot. "From the Barter Fair" she said as she handed me the bag. "And people are in town for the Pirate Party, so ... ". So, what? I wondered, but left it at that, more than content with the image in my head of pirates dancing like no one's watching.

We boiled contents of package into tea. Perhaps some mint and a touch of honey to mask the flavor of dirt. "I don't feel a darn thing," you said after some time, stating that you wanted to take a nap. I definitely felt something. We listened to the new Alice Coltrane collection, "The Ecstatic Music Of ... ". Since you were napping, I decided to make some ecstatic music of my own. The rumbling in my chest as I chanted felt amazing. And look, I had the foresight to setup mics above the drums, I'll hit those, too. Oh, and the Microkorg. I'll chant some more into the Kaoss pad and play the Shekere while Alice does her thing and I enjoy this moment, and then the next one, too.

Fast forward a bit. Wow, that's a lot of chanting! Can I make a track out of this? I wanted to make I dubby thing this week, I'll do both. So the beginning and ends of this song have recordings from that interesting night described above, and the middle is a little creation from this weekend. I realized the the Live session I used to merrily chant into had some recordings of past jams, I found some beats to slice, some old vocals things I did to slice, so created new loops and off to Weekly Beat races. The session has some guitar from Aaron Faulks too. Was he there as I chanted? I don't think so, must be from the other session. It works, He stays. Found cool 64 pad dub drum kit in the new Live 10 packs. Also, used the Movement plugin and an arp to create bass, which was a lot of fun.

Having some fun putting this together. This morning: Cajon sounds fun. Started saying things as I beat the Cajon, so kept that. Aah, another week in the can. Thank you barter fair pirate party person, you, my partner, and Alice.

lol, I'm loving these juicy toms. Really interesting vocal effects and percussion here, very creative! Very nice job heart

That beat is just sick.  Sounds like you had a fun and productive night!  I think this might be your best track of the year so far.

Primal. You tell a mean anecdote as well.

Love this! Especially the beat with all its layers that sort of come at you from everywhere, like a nice massage.

Great story with this one, definitely nailed the dubby vibe, love the extended outro

Very good! So much lovely sounds like the didgerydoo style sound in the beginning and those train like sounds and all with this phat beat and dubby percussions.

And thanks for sharing the creation process wink

Thanks very much! Those toms were played live on my drums, wanted to get more in there but didn't happen.

Wow, thanks - one of my faves of the year too, maybe will need to explore directions like this more (have some more fun productive nights sound fun too). Appreciate the listens and comments!

Thanks - glad you liked! Love the comparison like a nice massage. I've thought about making some chill music for massage, but maybe making music that gives a nice aural massage is a good way to go wink

Thanks! Love a dubby vibe, want to go that route more. Originally was thinking this track would only be like the outro is, bug glad I got a bigger beat in there.

Ah yeah, those pirates get it! Thanks, they made me smile.

This makes for a great soundtrack to the story. Really like the dubbiness!
