Mysterious Cairns in the Forest By a Stream

By miraclemiles on May 22, 2022 11:21 pm

I think this one came from the same general universal dimension as last weeks. I remembered that I wanted to sample the bassline from the maestro Cosmic Cairns' week 2 track The Same But Different. I asked him about doing so way back then, so I went ahead and downloaded it. Was debating whether to chop it or loop it, so did both. Bassline in first couple parts are chops, then the final section is his original looped. Did some talkbox sounds. Finished on Push playing some more dubby keys, drums parts, and used a sample to put together the nylon guitar lead. Oh and found some horn samples and did stuff with them. I do love horns.
My original title for this was Cosmic Boogie. It ended up maybe not so much a boogie, but little walk through the forest. I love walking through the forest, near a stream, and you come upon a cairn (artfully stacked tower of rocks in this case) that someone has made. It's kind magical, like woah, were aliens here? Who did this magic! I have recently learned that these are bad. It disrupts creatures who want to use those rocks for their own purposes. That's general gist. But virtual cairns in your mind are totally fine right. Kudos to Cosmic Cairns for this bassline and all the great tunes this year!

Really cool to hear the direction you took this in.  The bass line blends in nicely.  I could really hear it pop out at the end where it looped and it was interesting to hear the chopped up permutations at the beginning.  The whole thing was seamless with all the elements though.  Really awesome.  If you ever want to sample anything else, do feel free.  And oh yeah, just as a side note, I took the cairns in my name from my dogs who are cairn terriers, but the breed gets its name from the cairns in the U.K. which were often ancient monuments and I guess the dogs could get into the spaces between the stacked rocks and catch rodents and stuff.  But I always thought cairns had a bit of a cool mysterious vibe to them.  Especially really old ones.

That's a nice back story to this track, very cool to hear CosmicCairn's bass in there. Very groovy track, it would have worked as Cosmic Boogie. I like the mid section with the high strings, it brings an Indian music vibe to this track. Head bopping on this one.

Love those electro horn stabs against the the funky beat! Killer snare rolls. Sounds like a total street party! Now I got to go back and checkout CosmicCairns bass line from week 2.

Perfect music to empty a bottle of tequila and catch fire. Awesome job.

what a beautiful romp through the forest folks!

Really cool use of the bassline and love the dub feel going on with those synth stabs.  Cool percussion too especially those snare rolls.  This is a fun walk through the forest smile

Glad you liked! smile My original plan was to play drums along with the bassline, but I guess I was in the mood for chopping and taking another approach. Love this bassline! Maybe I'll still drum along to it.
Really cool to hear the story of your moniker, that's awesome. Hey, maybe I will sample something of yours again!

Thanks! The CC bassline was hot! I ended up with something didn't expect I would, but that's what happens! Maybe Cosmic Boogie is v2, the bassline will live on!

Thanks! I crave a good street party, if I could DJ this at one I'd be a happy fellow

Well that sounds like a lovely way to spend an evening, thanks for that image, and glad you thought so. I'm not sure I can see the future, but I'm pretty sure that night may be in my future.

Nothing like a good romp through the forest and the magical cairns (geologic and canine) to brighten the spirits I say!

I feel like dub is in my soul and won't let go this year. Thank you tank you!

Hudson Mohawke-esque brass chops AND drum line snare rolls AND flamenco guitar all at once? Love it, groovy tune.

HudMo's got a new solo record coming out in August, just in case you don't know. You probably know.
