Cordyceps Rhizome Up Version

This week's track is also my contribution to this week's Disquiet Junto project. The assignment: Record the final third of a trio. I look forward to participating in this asynchronous collaboration every year. I was reminded again this week that I love collaboration, async or in sync. We all have our skills and perspectives. Nice to bring them together. I could not play this bass line, and I loved listening to and playing along with it.

The collaborators are: Daniel Diaz's part 2 or 3 "Cordyceps Dub." He said: "I initially wanted to push it into a dub direction — not sure it fully works — but I had fun adding delays and plate reverbs to bring out that feel." and Benn DeMole's 1 of 3 "Cordyceps". It looks like he didn't post any notes, but his part is the tubuler(?), resonating and bell like main percussion.
This isn't the first year I have async collabed with these artists, they are great, check them out.

I also thought dub direction, but also, not sure what it really is other than what it is, the thing that it is. I played drums, added rhythm chords, voices, percs, and other little bits of auditory mycelium. Spread verb and delay. Used a comping drum process I like when playing on a new song with limited time. Looped phrases and recorded multiple takes, then using Ableton's take lanes to pick which is best and repeating through the song. Best to stop as soon as something tickles.

Sounds like a fun way to collaborate and this has all gelled together in to something with a bit of a tropical feel that also seems like it would be fun to dance to.

This is an absolute JAM!

Love the talking drum if that's what it is or is it just a vocal chop I DON"T KNOW?

Total laid back groove. The sounds just exploding everywhere all over the stereo spectrum, it's just ticking my ears.

suuuperfun collab piece!i can hear the inspiration you got from the cool elements that arrived. you're really good at pulling a mix that has a lot of elements together into a delicious stew. i'd guess that a big part of that is your innate sense of groove and knowing how to lock in and emphasize the core feel.
well done!

feeling those dub vibes heart funky bass and chill melodica that had me grooving with the awesome drums. Excellent work!

Nice, bright mix and a really fun jam. It sounds like everyone is in the room together, playing nice and loose and having a good time.

This is really dope, dubby vibe from the bass and delay, but this is so much more, can't squeeze this into a genre.  I like the loose feel of everything and how those drums are almost lurching and swaying.

Ooh really digging the bass on the second half
