Pistachios and Wine

By Minnamari on April 14, 2024 6:56 pm

Had a busy week, but today I finally had a moment to sit with my ukulele, and this song just came through. So this song is still very fresh as I only wrote it today. I think it was inspired by the contemplative weather today, I was sitting by the window with raindrops gently falling on the glass. Remembering earlier times.

There are some things I want to improve with the performance, such as making the ukulele playing a bit more interesting, but I don't have time to work on it more tonight so I will simply share it as it is. There's also it's own charm in these raw, very first versions of songs.

Lyrics:

I remember pistachios and wine
We were drinking and talking through the night
Then the light shone in through the white blinds
But I was the one who was blind

A street band started playing Autumn Leaves
Just when we were about to leave
It was spring, so we sat down by the water
My mind wanted this to be Happily Ever After
But my heart did not agree
Oh no, it was not going to be that easy

I remember pistachios and wine
with someone I thought was the love of my life
Well, If I'm honest, that is still no lie
They were - they are - a love of my life

I remember pistachios and wine
the bittersweet beauty of life

Thank you, it's a very simple progression but I've learned to respect that too and embrace that my songs tend to have a clear frame that I can move within

Wow I never heard that version, though I love Edith Piaf. Powerful!

I like this instrumental version, it is also the most similar to the version I heard on that day by the water, so maybe that's why this version has stayed with me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOtUIMrJUyc

Aw, you don't need to worry for my heart. These days it holds a deep undertone of joy for life and appreciation for all the experiences..which is what I think enables me to hold the sadder emotions too and express them. smile
