Majakka

By Minnamari on November 2, 2024 9:05 pm

This is a song based on a poem I wrote while lying on a cliff by the sea a few years back. I wanted to make it into something soothing, a bit of a lullaby. Majakka means Lighthouse in English. The Finnish word "kaikkeuteen" that the song ends with is hard to translate to English, the most direct translation is actually "The All, The Everything", but it sounded better with infinity so I put that into the translation instead. Anyway, I think you get the picture smile

I am finishing this song up with a heaviness over me, because I just learned my aunt passed away only yesterday. And strangely, this song feels like it connects to that, to her, ending a journey, or traveling on.. So I am dedicating this song to her.

Majakka (Original Finnish lyrics)
---------------
Tuuli tuulee tyttönsä tykö
Se tietää taakasta tajunnan takana
Toisitko tänne toivoa ja tahtoa
Jotta jaksaisin nousta kalliolta
Päätön, päättymätön, on pääni purje
Mutta enää se ei kauas kulje

Ainoastaan yksi kutsuu sieltä
Meren päästä toisesta maasta
Yksi ainut ääni kuuluu enää
Kaikuu sieluni syövereissä
Sydämessä synkimmässä
Sytyttää valon uudelleen

Ainoastaan yksi kutsuu enää
Meren päästä toisesta maailmasta
Kutsu kaikuu sieluni syövereissä
Sydämessä synkimmässä
Sytyttää valon uudelleen

Luulin sen sammuneen
Luulin kadottaneeni sen
Syvyyksiin, kuohuihin, pimeyteen
Mutta majakanvalo syttyi jälleen
Yllättäen, loistaen, kantaen
Tähden kotiin
Kaikkeuteen

Majakka (Lyrics translated to English)
---------------
The wind blows/comes to it's girl
It knows about the burden behind consciousness
Would you bring me hope and willpower
So I would have the strength to get up from this cliff
Headless, endless, is the sail of my mind
But it won't go far anymore

Only one calls from there
Beyond the sea from another land
Only one voice can be heard anymore
Echoing in the abyss of my soul
In the darkest of hearts
Ignites the light again

Only one calls anymore
Beyond the sea from another world
The call echoes in the abyss of my soul
In the darkest of hearts
Ignites the light again

I thought it had been quenched
I thought I had lost it
Into the depths, the foam, the darkness
But the light of the lighthouse ignited again
Surprisingly, shining, carrying
A star home
To infinity

so, kinda wanna cry listening to this. It's fucking beautiful.

I am sorry for the loss of your aunt. This beautiful track will please her wherever she is now. You sang it very passionate.
And I am very glad you found the way back from the cliff.

Thank you for listening. I appreciate it. I'm glad to be back from the cliff too.. But sometimes it can still be good to rest on a cliff or sit on ground, it can be grounding.

Sorry for your loss, a lovely song to dedicate. This is beautiful, can hear the emotion in your voice. Appreciate the lyrics, thank you.

sending love, very sorry for your loss. heart

Thank you. That means a lot heart

Love the orchestration there. The deep bass with the little smooth arpeggios on top are very beautiful with your grounded vocals.

My sympathies for your loss.
