theremini exploitation

By MAXELL XL3 on May 2, 2026 7:54 pm

I bought a Moog Theremini last week and spent a few days learning how to play it. To practice, I used a rhythmic and melodic sample from my SP-404 and played along.

My first recordings from those early practice sessions were pretty disappointing, so I decided to start over. This time, I experimented more with isolating parts of the sample and adding some warble effects. The full recording ended up being about an hour long, which I later edited down to under ten minutes.

After that, I added some guitar with effectpedals. In the end, the track doesn’t really have any standout moments, it just kind of drifts and meanders for nine minutes through time and space.

Love how the loop builds then drifts and breaks away.
It's great to hear you experiment and build too, the little glitches bouncing in with the guitar parts are cool.

Love how this track wanders - those horns give it a bit of a sickly dub feel that sounds great.

What do you think of the theremini so far? I’ve almost bought one on at least two occasions. smile

Thank you very much for listening and your feedback. My thoughts on the theremini are this: it is easy to use in the beginning to make wild sounds and there are many features that help to stabilize the tone and pitch. Until now I only used the presets of the 32 different sounds, but I should try to customize them with the app, because some of the sounds I don’t like so much. After hours of playtime I started to build the right feeling for the interaction to make a melody that I was looking for, but it was still far away from being able to control the machine. The sounds that I  recorded sound great but I wish I had more control over this thing. It can also being used as a controller for midi or cv gear. But first I need to practice a lot more, because I do not want to make only chaotic noises. I can recommend the theremini for easy and fat sounding results and I hope I can handle it one day, to switch to the real theremin one day. Good luck for you.

oh hell yeah, this is great. stoked to check out your previous weeks
