Exit Signs - Week #4

Excited by the release of iZotope's new BreakTweaker drum sampler/synth/sequencer last week, I quickly downloaded the demo and got to work. I've heard rumors of this BT-created instrument for years and couldn't wait to finally get my hands on it. The glitchy intro beat is the result of a few hours spent getting my head around its sequencing and MicroEdit engine, and I'm pretty happy with the sounds I was able to pull from it.
The rest of the track came together with my usual V-Station synth melodies and bass line, recorded from my MIDI controller and quantized to taste in Cubase. Feeling the need for a big Slowdive-inspired wash of lead guitar, I plugged my Digitech iPB-10 pedalboard directly into the audio interface, with the Eventide Space reverb on the FX loop. For added dreaminess, this recorded channel later got some granular pitch-shifting treatment with the excellent SaltyGrain plug-in. Finally, to give the song some energy at the halfway mark I loaded up a basic "Abbey Road 70s Open Direct Kit" in Maschine with some compression, saturation, Resochord, and delay effects on the group output.
