Joining the Bat Gang

By lulub4ts on January 25, 2026 2:38 pm

☆ A young bat grows up in the Cave of the feared Bat Gang. The Bat Gang are pretty tough and have a lot of experience, but our young Bat is determined to grow up strong, train hard and eventually join their ranks (and their chorus). Eventually, our young bat is able to join the tune and answer the chorus call, even with their wavering inexperienced voice ☆

I made this song with 'cave crawling' or creepy skeleton dances in mind, but when the second chorus came in I somehow imagined a young bat trying to puff himself up to be like the older bats in the cave (who are a part of a rough bat gang). The young bat attempts to echo the song of the older bats (which are gruffer, stronger), but fails many times, before finally learning the notes and coming through in the end. The older bats try to answer where they can, to guide the little bit. Or, so it's meant to sound.

I was trying to be serious, but when explaining the making of this song to my partner ('so... it's about a young bat trying to fit in with a cave gang of rough n' tumblin' no-nonsense bats'), he said 'lulu, your song explanation sounds like a Flight of the Conchords bit'. Look, that's... not wrong... (my song imaginings ARE pretty dorky [laugh]).

I ran outta' time with this one tbh. I would have liked to have worked on it a bit more as there are a few out of tune areas and weird drums that I don't know if I like or not, but I'm staying true to the Weekly Beats war-cry of 'release what you have', even if they are fledgling bat gang members (or notes) in training, which have not quite matured or fully taken wing quite yet. Like the little bat joining the gang, I'll imperfectly raise this little immature voice. I do wish I had extra time to draw these little characters as pixel art or something. It's the first weekly beat I've thought, 'Ah, I can see this as an image or a game idea better than a song idea' despite the song not being so strong. Still, it's something to work on at a later date, perhaps.

Thank you for the comments and encouragements along this little musical journey. I appreciate the little comments here and there and (if I have not done so) look forward to properly listening and replying to all your music soon too. Got to play catch up this week! We're on Week 4, how amazing! Let's make all that we can with the time we have (but take care of yourself too).

「Lovely Composer」 for this one too ♡

Haha I love the story. I agree on the flight of the conchords comparison, and that’s definitely in the most positive way smile Great track!

This would be right at home on a Playdate zelda-like game. Really quality chiptune track. Good job!

I love the story! It really comes thru in the track, nice work 🦇 and excellent choice of sounds, they fit the bat cave theme so well.
