River of Souls

Nice n lazy this week. I started on a different 'simple' project a couple of days ago but as per usual, the ideas ended up getting a bit more complex than I had the focus to carry out, so I found the opening piano motif for this piece among a handful of phone snippets I recorded around new years eve to plant a few seeds for WB26. So I guess this one has officially taken root. Huzzuh!
The piano alone was setting a certain mood I was okay with, but I wanted a little something more, maybe a drone or growling effect or something. I was pondering downloading a sfx of growling or screaming or something and then mess with the speed/pitch etc, but before I did, I had a look through some of my plugins and found a synth sfx set. One of the effects sounded kinda bonkers, nothing like what I was going for, but I heard potential because it had no pattern, just random wandering noise. I set a long single note in MIDI, converted to audio, slowed it to a quarter speed, reversed it then dropped the pitch by four octaves. I then duplicated that, slowed to quarter speed again (1/8...?) and pitched this on up two octaves (from original pitch).
It wasn't quiiiite what I first heard in my head, but considering the low effort, I think it sets the vibe well enough.
