Busy Takt

By LOHTANGCLAN on March 12, 2022 12:07 pm

Made a thing on the Digitakt, using one sample on all 8 tracks (some sort of synth bass stab) for fun.
Recorded a performance of sorts into Overbridge, then threw the tracks into Ableton and messed around a fair bit with the stems.

Think I'll have to add practicing playing live Digitakt patterns to my list of things to do....sighhhhhhh

No song mode on the DT, right? Did you preprogram the chains or is this more of a couple of patterns w/ lots of tweaking, etc? The track is nuts, love the crunch and the relentlessness of the groove, reminds me both of Autechre and the edgier side of FSOL. I've been neglecting an awful lot of my gear due to so far utilizing WB as a "you bought this bullshit, you depressed idiot, GOTTA USE IT" but I need to do a month of just Elektron boxes... Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for the kind words! To answer your question - no, there's no song mode (by design, apparently!). I made 2 main patterns, then a few pitch shifts of one of them. Then I swapped between them and did a lot of muting/unmuting as I recorded. It's a lot of fun & made me realise I've been sleeping on a rather fun side of the DT, that I don't think is as easy to do on many other bits of gear that I own. Hoping to build up enough beats & confidence to do a long live-set type of thing.
I'm the same as you - I have so many Covid-purchases hahaha. Definitely forcing myself to use a variety of things this year instead of GAS-ing for stuff. (*stares at Octatrack page*)

Listened again, this is so damn dope. Really grateful for the explanation, I've jammed my Elektrons for a bit w/o ever finishing anything properly -- this is really inspiring on a lot of levels. We're almost 1/4 done w/ a year on WB, thinking I should set up some Elektron thangs (w/ M8) soon.

@ilzxc heh thankyou. I feel like my music is always rather spur-of-the-moment/random & often without intention.
Regarding the Elektron boxes, this technique by Wouzer was quite interesting for transitioning patterns on the Digitakt, of course takes a bit of organisation, but I like that you could potentially blend very different patterns together -
