Was camping and last weekend so skipped a week. Oops. But I'm back with a spooky, playful phonk-inspired track. This is my first attempt at phonk.

What the phonk is phonk?

Phonk traces its roots back to the Memphis rap scene of the early ’90s, pioneered by underground artists who crafted a raw, intense sound. It's only recently surged in popularity through streaming platforms and social media after it's migration to Europe. Phonk draws from gritty, sample-heavy beats inspired by classic hip-hop and psychedelic funk, with layers of haunting melodies and dark, atmospheric loops.

A main characteristic of phonk is its emphasis on the triplets, adding a hypnotic, driving force. Distorted 808s and punchy cowbell sounds are signature elements, often layered with eerie vocal samples and reverb effects that transport you straight into the shadows. The cowbells make up the main melodic layer and often move in unexpected chromatic shapes.

I wanted to pay homage to the cowbell by making my track cow themed and, of course, had to go for spookiness with the ghost. So, I present to you "cow goes moo. ghost goes boo."

Thanks for listening! Would love to hear what you think.

Moo and boo.

I love this.  Definitely fitting for the Halloween season.  Really like the intro and the vocalizations riding on a rhythmic trippy cowbell.  Its short, but long enough to slurp the pho in phonk. I really like learning about new genres, and this one is spooktacular!

I've heard of phonk before, but I can't say I ever paid attention to that genre. Thanks for the reminder, need to look closer at that. The 808 cowbell becoming the main harmonic element is super fun.

MOOOO
absolutely love how this all tumbles and spirals together into an extended verse at the end, it really brings focus and intent and a little narrative into an already sonically-fascinating and fun and frenetic rhythm, all inside just a little more than a minute, fantastic!

REMEMBER THE CHANT
MOO AND BOO
!!!

love this phonk

ps:

moo and boo, that's what's up. Love the voices here. Had not heard of phonk, but I can get down with this for sure.

moo and boo

Hahahaha, I loved this. Not expecting funny halloween-themed phonk, and now I need more of it.
