fairly happy with what was basically a last minute effort.

more workflow changes,
dusted off some tools and ideas,
tried some things that didn't work out,
landed on one that I've been trying to figure out what to do with.
well, now I've done something with it.
what's old is new again.

thanks to RAJA for reminding me the value of the One True Kick.
I need to upload that patch one of these days.
(didn't Bruce Lee say something about just practicing one kick?)

What's with the kick idea, back story? True kick?

Good intro, simple rhythm, it works.

Wobble funky

Move around, can't stay still

wow, thank you!

ha, the kick thing is based on something Raja said on this track:

tis the kick drum i've searched far and wide for... the type of kick drum that makes you check to see if you've put on fresh adult diapers this morning, only to realize you hadn't yet started wearing adult diapers and therefore should start wearing them posthaste! upon hearing this kick drum <3

“I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." - Bruce Lee

Was he thinking about music sampling when he said that? I love that low rubber bass as well, groovy and sexy. Head bopping to this track!

This whole track sounds awesome. The bassline is fantastic. The rhythm is supergroovy. An outstanding track.

Love this, sounds really cool, it has a kind of a rubbery feeling and it really bounces along with the groove. great work with the synth sounds

yoooooooh heart This is some early-Orbital level genius (my favorite band in the 90s, absolutely smitten with Snivilization at the time). Dude I love this, Imma HYU on Discord for a future remix project.

Feeling the groove here! Happy things happening here, nice. Intrigued by idea of one true kick, without knowing what that means really yet, I'll have to go check out that thread smile
This one actually is prob one of my faves of yours recently too!

ahhh I am so behind on replying to these lovely comments!

that's the one! heart I don't think he was, but I love that quote. he was an amazing guy, definitely known primarily for his martial artistry, and rightly so, but it's his words that stick with me. thank you for listening and for your kind words heart

Snivilisation is rad. soundtrack to many many happy weekends of my teenage years. thank you again and let me know if you have a chance to work on that remix (I know you have HELLA irons in the fire)!!

thank you very much! heart yeah this is definitely happy license mode lol.

I'm currently catching up with Raja's music today (I'm going to catch up with yours on another day) BUT I did a search for Raja music I hadn't commented on and you came up because you said RAJA and I HAVEN'T commented on this and

here we are

This is like I'm at a 3 hr Raja concert, there's an intermission, and they are playing a License track while everyone is using the restroom, getting drinks, buying Raja merch. (DANG IT there was a limited edition Raja vinyl and now it's sold out?)

I have to say the mixing on this is impeccable.  The reverb on the lead is perfect.  When those additional percussion elements come in, it's beautiful.  And whatever that like whistle thing is?  It's so good.  Great variety of drum kits.  Nice "guitar feedback" at the end.

Thanks for the intermission!

this is TOTALLY an intermission track. it felt like such a non-sequitur before but now that you say it - that's exactly what it is. that's the point. I also love the idea of it being an intermission for a Raja concert because I love Raja's vibes and he has always been there to support me and I would be thrilled to support him in some fun way like supplying intermission music. also his show totally would run 3 hours. his limited edition vinyl would definitely sell out fast too because it would have some wild no-expense-spared print process with a 12-frame animation or something.

thank you very much for the kind comment on the mixing.

this was a combination of sketches I'd been working on at the time, which isn't unusual at all for me, but to an even greater degree here. for example, the structure of the track itself started on the Analog RYTM (which I'm still not good on at ALL) as a sketch called "benadryl" and a lot of the drums were taken from the Monomachine. in fact, in one section I'm literally playing a random slice off the Monomachine kit every 16th note. what a goof.

the whistle/feedback thing was fun too. I made that earlier in the week, or maybe a week prior, and I couldn't figure out what to do with it, and then I was like, oh, hey, here's my outro smile

I need to get back into working leftover scraps into my tunes. it's like making soup or fried rice. you just throw whatever you've got into the pot/pan and it's never the same twice smile
