rain dance

Sometimes, you wake up in the middle of the night for no reasons and can’t get back to sleep, no matter how hard you try. Or rather, I guess I do. sad When that happens, I tend to give up trying and start working on a track until I finally get tired again. This is one of those tracks.

With springtime weather making a return, I’ve been craving some interlocking acoustic rhythms and ethereal pads. It may clash with the heavier sound I’ve been shooting for this year, but that can get sorted later. I don’t really have a plan for how this track relates to the others story-wise. But I can tell you that this track is thematically and musically connected to one of the characters I’ve introduced previously. wink

Ahhh this is so wonderful, definitely has an uplifting beginning of spring vibe to it! The string instrument with the pitched percussion is such lovely instrumentation

As much as it sucks to not get great sleep, I've always found working on music in the dead of night to be magical and intimate. Just you and your thoughts, alone and uninterrupted.

I like how this turned out considering what you were shooting for. That really tight drum beat locked into the acoustic just sounds awesome. I also really dig the steelpan(did I name the right instrument? percussion with notes, haha) melody that builds up along side the acoustic. Anyways, I think this still meets your guidelines for heavy music, it's like acoustic heavy.

Really nice and uplifting! Thoroughly enjoyed this lovely upload big_smile

Sometimes I also have to make music nocturnally. It helps me focus since there are far fewer distractions. But sleep is important too! Hope you have a restful week.

I can totally feel the spring appreciation in this one, hahahahaha... Super hopeful and full of wonder. Great job, I especially liked the percussive elements you added on top of the drum break.

Oooh visions of rain pouring off the roof over a lush garden.  Looking out the window dreaming of an escape.  Excellent chord progression that sounds great with the melody.  Gave me some jrpg feels a bit too.  That main acoustic melody is super soothing smile

It's crazy how good just the pads, bass, and percussion sound at the start, then it just keeps getting better. I think I hear an electric guitar reminiscent of a couple of other tracks of yours from this year, such a great sound even if it's not a focal point in this track. It didn't occur to me before but the flowers on the moon maybe need water, hence rain dance? I'm ready for you to drop the lore video on the story haha.

Wow I really love this track. It has that feeling for me of the sun coming up after pulling an all-nighter. Did you work on it until the sun came up? tongue

Excellent spring music!

Very refreshing and cool athmosphere. Nice gamelan elements combined with jazzy drumming, nice one!

Blessed be the rains. It may clash with this year, but it fits perfectly well in the lineup of 2022, and those were all certified bangers.

Thanks! That’s reassuring to hear. I think the instrument you mentioned is actually a gamelan, but I guess they’re not too far off from one another in terms of timbre. And the way you describe your experience with all-nighter composing definitely captures the mood perfectly. It’s not exactly my preference (I hate how out of it I feel the next day), but every once in a while it’s a really fun experience. smile

Thanks! Yeah, I definitely made sure to catch up on sleep after that.

Thanks! I definitely had fun with the percussion on this one. Springtime brings pollen, and pollen brings bright colors and flowers (and allergies for some people). I tried to match that with rhythms and textures that felt playful and ticklish. Hope it turned out okay!

Thanks so much! Not to give too much away, but you might be hearing that melody again sometime in the near future… wink

Hehe, thanks! Can’t say I’ve got a lore video planned, but I’m having fun with the worldbuilding, and with trying to sustain continuity. One thing I can say is, your theory about the rain dance being for the flowers on the moon is not far off. wink

I…think I did, actually! Or close to it. Kind of hard to remember through the sleep deprivation, haha. Anyway, really glad to hear this one resonated with you! The feeling you described is exactly what I was going for. heart

This made me really happy to read. heart Between practicing new production skills and trying to push for a more aggressive, heavier sound, I’ve sometimes felt a little lost this year. It’s a comfort to know that something still works about what I was doing before. I’ll see if I can’t retain some of that while pushing forward.

Love this. Thank you!

Every year that goes by I find myself loving the birds and plants more and more, and feeling the lift of spring. This track gives me a similar feeling,  thank you

Definitely know that feeling, and I'm really glad to hear that some of that came through in this track. Thank you so much for listening! heart

i'm screwing this up by listening backwards, but i can see the flower girl's origin story in this

Awesome to hear! I’m hoping I can make good use of running themes to tell a continuous story this year.
