This city ain’t what it used to be

Another production with minimal means, the setup:
- Everything edited on iPhone (GarageBand)
- Recoded with a Tascam hand recorder
- The bass is once again back on the table! (cf. pic)
- A very light guitar, some percussions with a pencil (…?)
- Recorded some nightscape sounds of Prague to give some texture to the song

The idea? Well, I wanted one of these detectives, noire style stories music, something where the anti-hero stares through blinders, hidden in stale cigarette smoke and muttering to himself the name of the track.

For me it’s also a recording of Prague and those night trams that grind my gears whenever I want to fall asleep in the evening. I took advantage of the bass sounding like a double-bass to give this “acoustic” setting with a bit of those latin drums I used last week.

I also got waaaaay better at synchronising sound when importing the .wav files to GarageBand. But my setup is really wonky. i also learnt the Hungarian minor scale, cool.

It was fun!

NB: I noticed after I recorded everything that it reminded me of some songs while browsing reddit and seeing something about Killers of the Flower Moon. Never seen the movie, but the soundtrack is excellent and has 3 songs in the same vein: Heartbeat Theme, Insulin Train and Too Much Dynamite.

love that jazzy beat, pops and snaps with a wicked nightlife strut to it heart

Absolutely nails the noir!
Great stuff :3

You are crazy to be doing that at an iPhone big_smile

cool stuff, nice idea to use desk as percussion, nailed the noir vibe big_smile

that's a very creative way of doing a brush hit, and the rest is really smooth too
