Jammin' through a crowd

By LeBernd on March 17, 2024 10:40 pm

For week 11 I decided it's time to finally attempt a 1-Track-challenge. Meaning this is all M8 synthesis, using only one of its 8 tracks all the way through. I'm so tired.
The title came to me last minute, when I discovered the parallel of making this track and my walk through the city each day - trying to get a groove going while having to constantly dodge the constraints of not having enough space. Kinda feels like artfully dodging peoples kids on a narrow sidewalk trying to overtake all the slow walking people on my way to the train.

As with my last tracks I got some mileage out of manipulating the reverb (mainly automating the Freeze and Room Size for risers). Kick, Clap and one of the melodic blips are all one FM Patch using "scenes" in the instrument table to alternate between it's flavors. It was also fun exploring the Macrosynth Plucked to make a clavinet that I'm sure will come in handy one of these days!

When I read "jammin' through a crowd", the image in my head was more of a deranged maniac in a truck driving through a crowd. Which would be quite a gruesome title big_smile

Skillful use of that one track. Good job! The densest parts have more going on than I'd think fits in just one voice of polyphony! Chords, bass, kick, clap, hi-hats. Yeah!

And yes, the clavinet is chef's kiss.

Thanks! Yeah, I was kinda second guessing the title for a minute, but then again - isn't ambivalence where art lives? (Beret intensifies)

This is super good. Love the 1 track constraint. Mega inspiring.

This is ONE TRACK!!!  Such a great example of how artificial constraints can drive innovative problem solving, and really elevate creativity.  Which is a lot of words to say, this is DOPE!!
