QY 100 by the book

By LaScience on January 14, 2024 5:00 pm

Some times ago, I bought a pair of Yamaha QY 100s. The workflow being quite old fashioned, it’s not the kind of gear one starts to use immediately without RTFM. They stayed on my desk for a few months. I finally decided to  plunge in the manual and try to assemble something while reading the instructions.

This piece is composed without any goal, apart the application of different sections of the manual. I’m starting to understand the workflow, which, honestly, is not so bad.

Kudos for digging into a way of making music + actually reading the manual! I like the "far-off" feeling of the drums and in general the sounds you chose here.

I'm in the same boat with the Octatrack.  I'm RTFM like a MF every 10 seconds!

the QYs look fun!  Can you sync the pair?  That would be super exciting!

Well the QY has a kind of old fashioned workflow that is not intuitive compared to modern gear. However there are tons of features packed in it. Which seems surprising for something that looks like a toy.
There is a midi in and out. But I never tried to synchro it with another gear.
