Feedback and back and back

By lament.config on May 12, 2024 12:22 pm

WARNING - this track is composed entirely with feedback, if you're listening on headphones please be careful.

I'm not sure entirely what happened but when playing around with the drone instrument rack I made last week it got stuck in an evolving feedback loop...so of course I recorded 10 minutes of it...and of course I fed that recording straight back into the drone rack.  4 main channels of differently modified feedback, some I think are rather pretty.

Made in Ableton

Really nice tones here. It seems really controlled, is that the rack working its magic or did you go back and "calm" things down so to speak?

For the most part it was the rack but I did have to eq out a few highs that might have been too piercing.  I kinda like the sonic discomfort of feedback, so may have left them in if I wasn't going to upload the track here.  There is a song Ramp by a breakcore musician named Toecutter that I used to like DJing which has a painful, high pitched noise running through most of the track.  People reaction to it was pretty wild.

This turned out awesome... very spooky.
Nice

Your drone mastery is on point and I wish I had more patience and understanding with creating them smile  Really cool idea of feeding the recorded feedback into it.  Feels like I'm floating thru some bad memories (the higher pitches) but floating on with the bassier tones.

i really like this, but i've always had a fondness for feedback. i feel like it affects my physically in some way. it bordered on uncomfortable, but i feel like you have it mixed just right. nice to go back and listen to some of your previous weeks that i missed. cheers!
