Crash Report

By lament.config on December 15, 2024 11:36 am

Between you and me, this didn't turn out right.
I want to apologies for not listening or commenting much this week, both me and my cat fell ill.  She's ok, but neither of us have slept much.  I'll try and catch up this week, I mean how busy can work get the week before Christmas?

This weeks track was written entirely using MNTRA's MNDALA2, specifically using Tenebrae and Vespera.  I was trying for something completely different but for reasons of time leaned into the static.

If someone had told me I'd keep making space/sci-fi music 50 weeks ago I'm not sure I would have believed them.  Well, in the words of that intrepid explorer of the cosmos "To Infinity and Beyond...the safety of charted space into the ever shifting maw of the monstrous nuclear chaos that dreams all into being."

Made in Ableton

Visions of taking my first flight in a spaceship I made only to have it break apart in space to be stranded. The pads sound super celestial and the noise bits helped paint the picture.  smile

I love the juxtaposition of these sounds. On one hand, you have those clean cosmic pads - so Star Trek. On the other, you have that rumbly noise that almost sounds like a ‘73 Nova struggling to stay running on a cold December morning. With where the track goes, it’s almost has a feel of attempting to go where you are unable to reach - where the ability does not reach the desire.

I think it did turn out right. It really does sound like a "crash report" to me.

i hear an almost a machine gun kinda effect on that sound. Interesting mix with the smooth sounds over the too. I like the different sounds you’ve dropped on here, add a lot of texture.

Hope you and the cat are well!

hope you both are feeling better heart

I hope you and your kitty are doing well heart

It's good to lean into the static. There's a lot of texture and play here that works really well. Reminds me a lot of what comes out of my Lyra when the FM mod is cranked on some of the oscillators ... I think you would enjoy a SOMA Lyra8 (or the Lyra4! it's been reissued!), if you were ever looking for some hardware drone.

Keep pushing the new frontiers heart

Hope (and the kitty) have found some sleep.  I really like the atmosphere you put together in this track.  It would definitely work as like underscore for an opening exposition sequence of a sci-fi film/or game, where we are introduced to a ship that is lost or derelict, and the hero(s) is discovering that some faceless horror has found it's way into the ship.  Like this could have easily been score for Pandorum or Deadspace... so it might not have come out how you planned... but it still works.

I can one HUNDRED percent envision this being used in a sci-fi flick!!! Very weird and cool smile

Thank you all, please excuse the group reply but time is not on my side and I want to listen to as much of your music as I can.  My kitty is doing much better, she kept me up for a few days straight but has come through the other side and is now asleep on the bed.  I really appreciate the well wishes, it was kind of a shitty week and they most certainly helped.  Going to miss you weirdos next year heart
