Sølv himmelen (silver sky over Oslo)

By laguna on April 2, 2014 12:00 am

I just came back from Norway where I was visiting some family for this long weekend. Worked on some project during the trip but I wasn't happy with it, so I made this from scratch in about three hours .

Uploaded 8 seconds before the deadline. Maybe it's a little bit too simple, but I hope you like it.

Gray skies and raindrops of freezing rain always make me glitch smile

IMPORTANT UPDATE: THIS IS THE CORRECT VERSION (I uploaded a damaged file and reuploaded on Monday morning)

wahhh man what was that!? the snare just slammed around my face and now it's swollen wink

I'm digging the chord progression, even if it's simple! And the little SNES-like whip crack breaks. big_smile

Sometimes I make music like this too, just simple chords drowning in master or drum effects like this. I find it's a nice way to capture my state of mind and (apparently the grey skies of Norway too!) smile

In three hours you come up with this? :0  Amazing.
Actually, my song was pretty much thrown together this week, too.  Sometimes those are my best songs because I don't overthink them like I usually do.

Hahaha Sorry about your face, man! ... But seriously, thanks. I wanted to do some melancholic vague melody with crushing drum beats that hits you like the gray (sometimes sad) days hit me when I'm on my own.

Yeah, man. I always wish I could jam like a country crooner, but the truth is there's something about those heavy beats that take me to another place, mentally.

Guess I'm some kind of digital bitcrushed goth kid in disguise, haha !

Your track is guite good indeed, both music and lyrics. Indeed, you're right: sometimes we overthink a lot of details and lose focus... A quick imperfect jam is sometimes quite better.

I'm trying to manage both, recording experiments, leaving them to rest, and revisiting them a couple of days after

Woah, almost thought you didn't have a track this week! Glad you got this gem in!

Thanks man! Still enjoying that Galaxy Quest GIF smile

Yeah hearing the correct version makes a big difference.  The beats are really cool and inventive in this and I dig the synth sound as well.

Delicious squelchy goodness up front, restrained and meditative hums in the back...such a measured and tight arrangement, love it! big_smile

that's a most excellent beat/groove. nice

Great track, and a fitting soundtrack to Oslo's still continuing rain.

suhweet beat and i like the tone of the beat itself, like you're playing it on vinyl, nice job!

Thanks. Are you from the city? WBHeads are everywhere!!! Place is nice, but I'm simply not used to go out no matter the weather. With all that rain and snow, I'd be composing at home all day smile

wow, this is cool! good stuff.

Yes, I'm from Oslo. The weather's a bit nicer here now, though. But still a lot colder than in Spain. smile
