Hello WeeklyBeings all around the world!!!

Another hip hop / electronica joint courtesy of an absolute writer's block. Well, sort of.

I planned my weekend, set up my modular, and even improved a couple of routings in the studio. Started doodling on Saturday morning yet... nothing came.

Tons and tons of half bar loops, single notes to feed the sampler, even some curious two bar phrases but... nothing more. I forced myself to jam, tweak, even revisit my archive.

Not a single song in sight.

I was about to give up for this week. Took a break, watched some "Book of Boba Fett" with my family and got back in from of the computer. It was 3 hours to the deadline.

It took me 3 abandoned projects. Unused drum loops where the sparse bassline is just made of toms tuned, and the lucky break: those chimes!. I made the two bar loop a couple of years ago and (kinda) matched the key.

So added some production and hoped for the best. I haven't even tested those drums on my monitors, so I wish everything sounds half decent smile

The title comes from a beautiful movie I watched a couple of days ago: "The electrical life of Louis Wain". If you're in the mood for a slightly arty film about love, mental illness and lots of cats, I think you'll enjoy it smile

By the way, if any of you dig my drums, I'd love to collab because I had some drum tracks like these one which will probably be always stuck in limbo. Drop me a line if you want to build your magic over them.

Have a great week, wherever you are!!!

Love that synth line, gels really nicely with those drums. Finding it very easy to get lost in this!

I really like that noise running underneath the track, it's like an electric current powering the music tongue Great stuff!

I do dig your drums, man! I might be up for a collab later this year smile

Nice beat with fun melody playing on top, like the beat solo outro nice finish to the track

Super smooth. I love the bell melody from 0:14 onward. The modifications you apply to the beat are also super tasty. Really enjoyed this one.

I'd love to try one of your drum tracks in one of my songs

Very very sorry for taking so long to a decent answer. I didn't mean to be rude. Work has been somewaht overwhelming with a mixture of "big manageable things" and lots and lots of "tiny tasks" left half done or forgotten by others. No excuse, I know: we all have our chores and yet many of you manage to put out brilliant tracks.

Glad you like it, Mortistar. I created that "chimey" synth from Analog in Ableton. Was really glad I found some use to them, specially a very hipnotic one smile

I sometimes use a neat trick: I bounce one of the delay tails and/or FX returns and look for some interesting modulation happening. Then I grab maybe half a bar or a whole one, pitch it down one octave and add that fake "atmosphere" in every "breakdown". It gives that "something" in the background, while being in tune, and it's more controlable than a real delay tail.

Well, could be that or my chronic abuse of mid eq when it comes to pitched down hihats. I'm struggling with it, one day at a time :-)

Thanks a lot for listening, Sodabelly. Your music is a constant inspiration for me.

Whoah, that would be lovely, man! I'll be quite honoured

Thanks a lot, Jason. As I commented in the track notes, I become quite a good archivist of in all those WB years and that late night "I need something that matches this rhythm" puzzle-making sometimes has happy accidents like this one.

Again, thanks for listening and always giving feedback smile

Thanks a lot, Kedbreak136. I use a lot of "cheap tricks" when it comes to beats and loops, coming from a "boom bap" background. I'm always afraid they're super obvious to the listener, so I apply extra effort to "distract" with fancy hand movements because I feel the audience is always in the verge of screaming "he's cheating! it's just an 8 bar loop over and over!" smile

Your work is really interesting and I'd love to catch up with your tunes. Hope to have a proper listening to your stream soon.

Thanks a lot for listening and commenting. Every piece of feedback is really appreciated

Sure! Don't hesitate to drop me a line anytime. I'm actually sorting a lot of unfinished beats for that effect smile

Thanks a lot for listening, Devieus smile

Love the intricate hats and rhythm. A head nodder!

WE SHOULD collab!

the swirly swoosh on the drums is really great!
