Insensible

By laguna on December 8, 2024 11:29 pm

A LagunaGFX track made by the numbers, be that a good or a bad thing.

I really was glad I finally set up my rack again, so I could complain about how much wasted space and headaches my rack units are while I can do everything in the box. Meanwhile, I had a great time using my run-of-the-mill hardware mixers to overdrive my beat, while doing all my sample editing (mostly normalizing and trimming) in the box.

Its a slow process, but week's been kinda sad and/or meh and I was happy to lose myself in the cumbersome workflow of a 90s hardware sampler.

I was very sick last weekend, so I skipped WB completely, and I was still fuzzy until Wednesday.

I finished this one with at least some reasonable margin. It really doesn't feel like a track. It's more like a collection of loops, or a DJ transition, but I run out of time and ideas for now.

BTW, "Insensible" means "numb". Could be roughly be related to "insensitive" when it comes to empathy and stuff, but I was just going for the more physical "I can feel this pinch in my skin" meaning. Doesn't really matter, but... you know, your free Spanish lesson for today smile

Have a great week, everybody. Lots of love for all of you, wherever you are in this beautiful planet

Yeah, the one and only E-MU ESi 32 hardware sampler. I'm also oldschool (late fourties) and dreamed of those when I was starting college). They're really clunky by today's standards and there's always something broken. If you've never tried one, you're not missing any "magic", but if you already have them or can get them for cheap, they're not as versatile as software samplers, but have their charm.

Mostly it depends on what do you load on them. I'm building a short preset library slowly and painfully (my own presets, I mean) and then the thing boots in seconds and "it's ready", but I repeat: there's no "warm and magic" on them. They need EQ and production so much as any plugin (if not more).

Thanks a lot for listening, BTW. Boards of Canada are one of my favourites, and they inspired my "hazy" take on hip hop

I love the spacey feel to this and I think "hazy" is a great way to describe it too. Really cool stuff.
