Hazy eyes

I really really struggled with this one for days. I had literally NO IDEAS during most of the week, just wishing to play "Jedi Fallen Order" on my PS4 (excellent game, finished it on thursday) and do some programming instead of continuing this song.

I mean, I don't mean I didn't wanted to make music, but I got stuck into this with no time to ditch the initial idea and no further plans to take the song anywhere. I thought about scrapping the whole thing several times, even on Sunday morning.

Fast forward to Sunday night, after watching "Birds of Prey" with a buddy in the cinema (really fun movie IMHO) I sat in front of the computer and some things added up. Basically I threw all the melodic arrangement and used it as carrier and all the drum tracks as modulators. It was the only thing that made me feel I could give it some cohesion to a somewhat boring extended loop of sorts.

So here you go, some sort of "ambient" kinda song... Really don't know what to think about it, after almost deleting it at least 5 times.

Thanks to Grillo for letting me sample his track Handblls. It's the main pad of the song, taking his starting 2 bars, reversed and downpitched four semitones. I sincerely think it's the center of the piece, right now. Thanks a lot, Matteo!

Guess next week could be better.

If I had enough time, I'd make a really simple video for it. Now I'm just going to bed and call it a day.

Thanks for reading this long rant. Have a great week, wherever you are!!!

pretty hypnagogic drift stuff you made here! A few more effects and maybe a pitching down and you'd have a vaporwave classic on your hands.

Thanks, Scott! As a person almost completely strange to vaporwave I must take your word for it.

Yes, I've listened to that album with the greek bust and the macintosh SE on the cover, and a couple of other releases, though to my understanding the thing was about super slowed down Kenny G and Michael McDonald samples and I never really "got it". Guess I was too old to play Echo The Dolphin back in the day, so thats the reason smile

But seriously, thanks for the feedback. I was really "lost" on this one, because I didn't knew where to take the track nor had the time to start over. It's nice to hear someone find it hypnotic.

Ah, and I forgot to comment on the Grillo sample that is featured all across the song! I should update the description now

The percussion here is crazy. Favorited!

So this isn't the same but it definitely plays in the same space as your creation here and scratches similar itches for me: https://open.spotify.com/album/3hcvxTT2GjvZn6FiMewNgw?si=00Q0oQLIQly1Ve34H0tBfw

It's a mixture of some latin conga loops and some household items in an old forgotten sample pack I had. I spent like 3 days trying to build a groovy rhythm out of Scotch cello tape and some wooden spoons smile

Thanks a lot for the feedback, Mission Crossing!!!

I think I should have tried cardboard tubes, like him:

Dayum. This is probably my favorite of the week. I love how it sounds just as weird as it does funky. The textures are unreal, I can almost chew on them.

What a drum line, that percussion feels like it's falling over itself in its journey forward. Absolutely hypnotic. I actually love how abstract and creative this is, this is some of the best percussion I've heard in a while. Absolutely top notch.

It’s sometimes hard to guess where inspiration will come from.

Well, that's certainly one of the most original compliments I've heard (the "chewing textures", I mean). I'm really glad you enjoyed it, specially since I really struggled to know where to aim this track, and I really agree on the "weird" quality. Still don't know what is this track exactly.

Again, thanks a lot for your kind words, License

Man, that's quite a compliment! I struggled with that layer of loops, using two premade latin/african/conga things I found in the corners of my collection. The main one is just made of individual hits household items (even a Scotch adhesive tape used as snare)...

I've maybe listened to it for a million times, so it was really hard to knew if I were being original or just annoyigly weird and unsynchopated.

I'm really trankful for your positive feedback, mate! Thanks a lot

Indeed, Edmund. You're absolutely right. Anyway, in this one I think it wasn't exactly inspiration, but insistence. I was really really unhappy with the result and kept thinking to myself "I don't know where I do want to take this track, but it's not this way".

And by the way, I still have a lot to catch up about your catalogue from this year, man!

Thanks for listening, as always

Diggin' that release right now, Scott. Don't know if this is the most "prototipic" example of Vapourwave, but I really like those ghostly tropical broken melodies and rhythms, like dropping an Ensoniq SQ8 into crystal clear coraline waters wink

My kind of experimental electronic music. Thanks a lot for the tip!

Oh the foley drums in this are super nice! Same with the metallophone - blends in with that understated vocal line (or am I imagining that?) and bass so well!

As other people have said, these drums slap. This beat breathes and I love it.

this is really good. feels great to have contributed a tiny bit to such a great song! damn those drums!

Loving the organic feel of the drums.  The synths fill out the rest of the track nicely and make for a nice laid back track.  It's funny how our descriptions for our tracks can sometimes lack confidence in what we've done (happens with me all the time!).  Yet had you not said anything I wouldn't have guessed what a difficult week it was smile  Nice work!

It's got a tribal feel to it. One of those that do the drugs.

Gorgeous man. Everything is so crispy. I would really enjoy a more developed version of it.

very satisfying bendy rhythms. you got some articulated drum chops for sure

I'm such a bad friend, I am only now listening to your stuff this year and it is ALMOST MARCH

This is a sick beat, love the acoustic percussion vibes
