short technical exercise with schism tracker, explored some instrument functions i hadn't previously tried and revisited some old tracker tricks like creating pads within a single track (reduz's superpad trick).

Cool sound; schism tracker wouldn't have been my first guess at what you used to make it.

Thanks for mentioning reduz's superpad trick, btw.  After some googling, I found it in section 4.2.3 of https://milkytracker.org/docs/Vhiiula-TechniquesOfChipping.txt―which is an amazing document I didn't know existed, but has exactly the kind of info I've been looking for! cool

Thanks! And what an awesome little bank of oldschool techniques! I had no idea it was documented, I learned the trick originally from doing one hour compos in irc… reduz was always unbeatable tongue

the track is very nice and fresh. the program you used, seems to be too complicated for my little brain.

Awesome tune…  almost missed it devouring m8-centric tracks as I do :]
Would love to hear this redone on m8 - just to see what’s the same and what’s different. I had never heard of schism tracker

Glad you liked it! smile The program I used (Schism Tracker) is a clone of Impulse Tracker, a relic from the 90s/early 00s… it had some advanced features for the time, like a lowpass resonant filter if you were rich enough to own a Pentium MMX processor smile today there's probably not much sense picking it up without previous experience. I used it a lot back in the days and still love the fact that it's entirely keyboard drive .

If this one was remade with M8 I think it would lose a little of its charm that comes from using handdrawn 8bit single cycle waveforms, 16bit mixing engine and the lofi lowpass filter smile Technically it probably would be possible though since there's 8 tracks in the original too.

Remarkable tune -- this is more than a "technical exercise." smile

(Sorry, submitted too early) -- is everything samples in this or were there any synths? You have really lovely sounds in here.

Thank you! smile Impulse Tracker/Schism supports samples only… but since it has a resonant lowpass filter and freely drawable envelopes for vol/pan/filter it's possible to use single cycle samples a lot like simple synths.
