Zero Fun Value

By kineticturtle on January 11, 2014 5:55 am

This is a recreation of a song that is nearly 13 years old, originally played by my band in high school, "Formerly Bridgeway". The only instruments used are LGPT and a "Fishing for Phonics" educational toy made by Vtech in the late 90s. The toy is played live, not sampled. The title comes from an early (negative) online review of the toy, found while I was looking to buy a replacement unit when our turntablist quit the band and took the original with him.

I love it when people incorporate cruddy toy sounds into music. The modulation/delay stuff on it in the middle is sick.

Now I want to go fishing. Can we go fishing? FISHING FOR TUNE-A.

Thanks Roboctopus! Somewhere I have a video of the only time I've ever performed this live, where I borrowed someone's Zoom multifx pedal for that section and it sounded so wonderfully awful I had to replicate it. smile

Mike: There's a version of this live with my high school band where our singer made up some awful story about how this was dedicated to his sick cousin who loves to go fishing? I dunno it's terrible.

Haha speech and out-of-tune parts made me laugh in a good way!

haha I have a similar toy I like fooling around with... the voice is kinda singing the words so you can creat freaky loops. excellent work and happy to see a fellow LGPTer... you should join HEXAWE for compos!

I've got a vtech toy waiting for surgery, might have to dig it out now! Like the pitched delay thing.

This made me nod along and grin at the same time! CHOOOOOOOON!

Thanks all!

More like HERO fun value! Great track.  (I'm sorry, that was a really awful joke)
