The Buzz

By kevanatkins on January 21, 2024 9:53 pm

This week was probably my worst procrastination with only a couple hours to spare. And I'm still pretty happy with result. But I was still riding the buzz from a gig I played last night and that got me through. The only live instruments in this are the drums and bass. The rest is all virtual instruments.

I really really need to get a new midi controller. Because playing some of those parts on the little keys of a Novation Launchkey Mini was a bit fiddly. Curious to know what others are using.

Thank you! There's a familiar face! I'm sad to say, though, no crotch mic was deployed on this recording. I hope you can forgive me.

Still never got those stereo pair overheads, might be something for 2024!

Yeah. You don't even need two overheads a lot of the time. Sometimes the trouble of positioning two, as far as get the phase relationships all square is more trouble than it's worth. Mono drums great. This drum track only had one overhead. Though I did double mic both kick and snare (though I could have cut the 2nd mics of the kick and snare and still pulled a sound). So it was close to a more conventional setup in a way.

Instantly liked the instrumentation (maybe it was the stringy thing) and the drums sound fantastic! Thank you!

You should chat with Drum Bender-- they are perfecting a hybrid drum setup that you might find interesting!

I literally just use my keyboard, like the one with letters and stuff.
Nice groove though.
