Space Cigarette

A silly lil' ditty. The gritty low mid synth ostinato was made with a mouth fart sound. Has an oddly Oberheim-kinda quality and that brings me joy. I'm trying to exercise my string writing chops again this year, but in a more poppy way, that's also a bit of fun. I hope you enjoy it.

Very nice lines and progression! Feels good, reminds me of some videogame soundtracks where I'm just building stuff in peace and the hours go by. Cool use of "strings" synths. The orchestration is great for covering the sound spectrum and leaves enough space, but I would say the mix would be better with more high end to make it shine. Or maybe it's my crappy headphones? Anyway great work on this one!

Probably the headphones. The mix sounded bright enough on the Event Opals in a pretty damped room. But at the same time, a lot of records I like are pretty dark sonically, so I would have been referencing those when I mixed. I'm not a big fan of strident top end.

The "strings" synths are actually Kontakt sample libraries from 8dio. I'm still working on getting the expression right with them. Real string players are so much easier for me. Just expensive is all. Haha.

Glad you liked the track. Thanks for listening.

Ah! Nice to hear about the intentions behind the mix.

And yea, strings.... I sometimes use staffpad strings, they are the best I heard when it comes to virtual instruments, but a different process to write for them than using a daw with vst. maybe check it out if it's for you.

Amazing song and so well put together. I agree with the sentiment as well. Such a warm and inviting feeling.

That's incredible- amazing what modern mastering can't do!

Anything is possible if you're immature enough.
