Blue and Olive

By kevanatkins on January 19, 2020 6:36 pm

Here's something off brand for me. I thought I'd try and do something poppy (at least for me).

The track features live drums on a but if a mish mash kit, a 70s Ludwig Blue and Olive bass drum and floor tom, 50s Premier rack tom, a 1981 Supraphonic snare and 15" Sabian Artisan hihats. Miked with just a C414 just above the bass drum pointing at the snare. With a liberal amount of compression, Waves Trans X and some parallel saturation, it has come out pretty punchy, even in my garbage room. Then I just found the bars liked and looped them.

Main synth is the saw wave from the Dixie oscillator in my Eurorack, layered and thrown into Simpler. Can't remember what the bass was. There's also a pad, which is based on an orch hit sample that got mangled with a Gen patch in MaxMSP a while back and then put through the obligatory reverb and delay.

Jojo would be proud. An awesome foray into your "off brand" (bring on the revolution comrade).

I think the beat came together in a really cool way in the arrangement.

Awesome stuff.

Thanks. I sure haven't got Jojo's chops, though. That guy's on a different planet.
