The Hour of the Tiger

The Hour of the Tiger corresponds in eastern Asian cultures to this deadzone of 3am to 5am. Living in Tokyo, trains stop running from about 1am and restart only around 5am. It means that if you go clubbing, you are committing to be out there until 5am. Usually 4am onwards corresponds to being burnt out on a sofa or the side of the pool in ageha club.
The hour of the tiger is therefore this weird hour between the madness of the night and dawn, a mix of exhaustion, nostalgia as you know the better part of the night is over but also relief to some extent as it was a great time and you're looking forward to some rest. This is a bit of metaphor also for being close to then end of this year of weekly beats 2020.
The evolution of this track is very strange but I enjoyed the journey a lot. It started like a funk version of the theme for Curious George. And it also kinda reminded me of the Revolution track I had done a few weeks ago, to the point of self-plagiarism. Instead of scratching the track for that reason, I decided that embracing self-plagiarism was the best course of action and decided to add a lot of samples I used on tracks over this weekly beat year. Then I did some editing, and removed so much that actually the backbone of the original curious george funk track is barely there anymore. The guzheng, which can be heard on Hour of the Rat track from the middle of the year, decided to commandeer the track and take it somewhere else. And this is how we ended on this final product, the Hour of the Tiger.
