History of Violence

By Kedbreak136 on March 15, 2026 2:22 am

This is a track inspired by Jason Nijjer's dark urban tracks (minus the scratch and plus the asian strings). The title was inspired by the movie with Viggo Mortensen, about how you just cannot get out of the loop of violence, regardless of how hard you try. Unfortunately very appropriate for our times.

It's a cool mashup of Asian sounds and a sort of lo-fi hip-hop.  There does seem to be a feeling of lurking menace as well, as if violence could erupt at any moment.

Solid beat! Enjoying the variety of unsettling elements used to on-point effect.

eerie, dark, killer percussion. Wu-Tang vibes

Love that bassline! The track has a kind of dissonant quality to it, in a good way - just enough to keep it menacing and interesting. It kinda sounds like different harmonies mashed together somehow. Very cool!

Oooh yea feeling that dark and sinister vibe with the creeping bass and slick Guzheng.  The bubbling arps and deep brass sound great.  Love those lil bits of static and vinyl smile

Joooeeyyyy! One day I found the graphic novel that the film was based on (didn't even know it had source material) and read it all in one day, it was so good. Love the movie too.

This track slaps, very cinematic!

Cool vibe. Like that big flappy kick.
Giving Kung Fu vibes to begin with, then the synth arps come in and shift the context.
Cyber-punk Kung Fu film perhaps?

Unnerving and groovy. Nice work.

I love the crisp drums almost as much as I love the Cronenberg film!

This rocks! I love this kind of lo-fi fusion. You're a couple kung-fu film dialogue/brass samples away from giving Alpha Centori's "Supercharger" EPs a run for their money.

i want to watch this movie heart
and hooray for Jason Nijjer love,
you are both so talented

Late to the party, thank you for the kind words in your intro, that puts a massive smile on my face to think that I was able to bring some inspiration for a fellow weekly beat member.  Great head nodder of a beat to start with the vinyl crackle.  Love how you used the strings on this and that drone like bass (sounds like an ancient war horn).  Like how this keeps evolving with the vocal sample at 1:50 then the arps at 2:12.

This was cinematic. I can imagine getting lost in this dangerous urban underground world.

This is some funky Yakuza shit. Really really dig this. It's so sinister.

Thank you! I cannot seem to be physically able to make happy music. smile

Thank you, though to be honest the beat is from a NI instrument, but i stillw as the one who chose the preset. smile

Yes, that was the intent. Dark urban minimalist with exotic spice! Thank you for the comment!

That would be the violin playing E and F to create that high pitch dissonance. It's in the back but it does bring a sense of unbalance and unease. That's a cheap trick and I will never hesitate using it again. smile

Thank you! The static and vinyls were definitely inspired by Jason!

Thank you! I did not know there was a novel - I'll need to check it out!

Cyberpunk Kungfu film - why isn't that a genre? Thank you for the kind comment!

Good ear - this is actually a war horn! I used multiple war horn samples! Thank you for always sharing cool music!

Oh yes. So cool inspired by Jason't great track, you are both very rad. This sounds good, I could see a certain type of fight scene evolving to this, or maybe it's avoiding the fight too, like the soundtrack of trying to escape the cycle. That voice in there is awesome. Great movie and title!

Oh yeah.... digging that bass and asian string combo with the half time beats.  Super cool. You still managed to squeeze in some trademark kookiness.  smile

There's a certain Mezzanine-era Massive Attack feel to this track. I really like it. I can almost hear Elizabeth Fraser.

Yes! Feels trippy-hoppy in the best possible way. Also reminds me a bit of Dan the Automator's grimier stuff

Awesome track
