a reverse-shadow version of last week's track (they are here).
i was happy with the noisier, claustrophobic, almost goth-y feel of how 'they are here' turned out last week, but i wanted to try a more gentle take.
this version is mostly based around my trusty old steel-string, but i layered in bass, harmonies, and some Casio Rapman. i got that thing at a garage sale for $5 back in the late 90's and even though it's missing several black keys i love it so much. the looooong reverb is from Valhalla's Supermassive which is an incredible (and free!) plugin.
the experience that inspired this original idea was disorienting, but it wasn't necessarily SCARY. the sound actually felt good and comforting. anyway, should probably stop talking about this on The Internets  big_smile

There was a compilation in the 1990s called "Songs in the Key of X", which is mistaken for a soundtrack for The X-Files but in fact is more of a "songs that inspired Chris Carter" and "songs inspired by the show". I bought it by mistake, thinking it was a bona fide soundtrack. But this was a very happy accident, as the album introduced me to a lot of awesome music.

Your track reminded me of all this, and I think it would belong on that album.

Interestingly the intro still sounds scary, but when the song proper kicks in it becomes much warmer and comforting sounding.  I like the idea of responding/reacting to the previous week's track.

Love the sound of those opening guitar lines.  With the bass it sets the scene so nicely.  Supermassive is awesome and has a nice assortment of presets.  The casio sounds brand new and so spacey.  Those strums got me swayin. *holds lighter in da air*

I'd misremembered that Skip Spence had a track on this, though it turns out his submission "The Land of the Sun" was rejected.

jwh's song here seems more in keeping with Skip's work on the beautiful Oar. Evocative and otherworldly!

Felt like I stumbled into an indie rock oasis of blissful jams, listened three times in a row, thanks!

Yeah, love those long trail reverbs (Supermassive is awesome, if I go for ambiant I always add that to the track)

Very nice track. I really like the piano melody over those nice acoustic guitars.

i do remember that comp! my good buddy had a copy & played some of it on his radio show. woah - i forgot R.E.M. got the Burroughs treatment on there!

I love the vocal layering and effects on this track.  Intimate and dreamy, but still dark and introspective.  I really like the direction you took it. 

What a joy to listen to this, beautiful vocals and love all the space given to each sound, perfect use of Supermassive (subtle and not overwhelming).

Dreeeamy. Very cool contrast to last week's version. The picked acoustic sounds lovely, and it feels really satisfying when it switches to strumming chords. The electric guitars in the background add tons of texture and warmth.

This is beautiful, and I really enjoy the juxtaposition of the versions of this great song. The use of space in this version is great. I sounds so vast and open. heart

Mysterious and otherworldly, I like how this unfolds deliberately with purpose. I think I know what this about. Seeing the X files comments too ... I may have missed last week, gotta check that now. Cool idea to respond to a previous track. Like chapters in a novel maybe. I the love sound from the Casio, adds a lot.

Gorgeous. Those trickling synth elements shine in this beautifully sparse tune. And I love those chords / pads around the 2:30 mark. heart
