By jwh on November 3, 2024 7:24 pm

with:
ddmm64 // beat & synths (on the M8)
Tone Matrix // piano, rhodes, static percussion

i added vocals & electric guitar and did the final mix.

this song was built on ddmm64's Week 29 track, 'bullaby.'

› brief about/potential overshare

› lyrics

ps: i had the honor of contributing some vocals to neon liminal's 'six fathoms deep' — the latest installment in his spooky season series. check it out if you haven't already, he is absolutely killing it this year!

Love that chorus so mucho!  Thank you for including me on such a beautiful song that you and ddmm64 created. heart

I can't express how honored I am to collaborate with you, jwh and Tone Matrix - you really made a beautiful song and tribute out of my humble loops - thank you both.

This came together so well... ddmm64's track makes for a lovely bed and the everything just layers together sooooooooo well.  Beautiful... dark, and haunting, but beautiful all the same.  Great job all.

Your track made me really sad this time. I can feel the right sensitivity in your music for such a tragic story. My love goes out to the kids. I am sure this song might comfort them one day a little bit.

Can't grasp the memory - night air from a cracked car window, headlights on an unlit nowhere road between somewhere and somewhere else, dull burn of holding back tears.

Somewhere there's one musical moment that I'm reminded of here, but I am lacking the ability to identify it - amidst the era of early Low, TV on the Radio, something I can't recall ... and yet my brain hears some fantasy intersection of Sigur Row, Laurie Anderson and Kate Bush.

All of that to say - this collaboration, your vocals, the way you've brought this together, has made something really magical and beautiful and haunting me with memories I can't remember. Again. Always. heart

...incredible work. Can't put it into words. The background story, I regret to say, is relatable -- happened a while back, enough time has passed that the eldest of the kids is either done or finishing her PhD in psychology (specifically depression and suicidal ideation research).

To write a thing that overflows w/ hope and beauty about an event that doesn't is an act of love and I find myself unable to do anything other than reciprocate that, though words is all I got for now. Love your way and to the kids left as well.

lovely! I didn't pay attention at first and it felt like a beautiful chill track with a lot of emotion.
but now I read about the track and relistened and it's so much more impactful. yet another reminder how music is a lot about community and context. great work. hopeful and important.

"sifting through a box that never empties" thats a powerful one liner right there

The warm synth chords that open the song give it an almost church organ-y feel. This is beautiful!!! Awesome work to everyone involved!!! heart

Really beautiful take on a dark and tragic subject.  All of the elements come together perfectly here.  Wonderful collab.

such a classic and warm treatment of a difficult subject, this relates to so much that we experience when face with very emotional loss and heartbreak ,in all its form. Very nice.

What a beautiful tribute, great job all around. "Sifting through a box that never empties" - an insoluble paradox, or maybe just a shoebox of old photographs that one looks through every year and never throws away. Much love to the musicians and the family.

This song is as beautiful as it is sad.  My heart to you and those who have to go on with a piece of theirs missing.

The collabs you all are doing a quite remarkable, this one might be my favorite.

Oh I am SO here for these jwh-Tone Matrix collabs. Your sounds and styles blend great together and result in some wonderful tunes with rich synth layers, touching lyrics, and a ton more. Keep up the great work! big_smile

Your voice is perfect for this beautiful and emotional reminder of the pain and sorrow that loved ones must cope with during these tragic events. “Who’s gonna teach us how to get old with grace and purpose…” is the line that really stuck with me and that speaks to the insurmountable void that comes from such a loss. The three of you created such a heartfelt collab with just the right amount of sensitivity and tenderness.  Thank you.

I'm not sure how to express this other than to just say this sounds like a "real" song, like something I'd have listened to on a CD with friends as a teenager, made by real musicians and comes with liner notes, lyrics and credits. It doesn't feel like something made in a week. It's a really beautiful song and the production sounds amazing. Really really love this one!

those guitar backing tracks that follow the vocals, well done! The descending/ascending lines at around 1min, such a nice touch. So many great layers for a sad feeling song, maybe nudged in that direction because of world events. ;/

Heart wrenching and touching, after reading about the story. Sounds really lovely. Great collab with two wonderful creators, great song, thank you!

Beautiful song, beautiful lyrics, I have family that has dealt with this.

the poetry is beautiful, really a triumph. the keys sound really good on this too. nice track!

It sounds like a song filled with a variety of emotions. It's a wonderful collaboration.

What an amazing collab. Each contribution  elevates the entire piece.

I love the amazing things that happen when all the fantastic talents at Weekly Beats are able to meet up and work together. Magic.

This is beautiful. Melancholic and sad vibes but rich and beautiful.

beautiful track and sentiment - you've been unstoppable this year and I haven't even listened to it all!  congrats.

The words, sounds and story made me cry. But it's good to feel. It's amazing what music can do and how it can help. My heart goes out to those kids, and you. What a treasure of a song.

goosebumps.  such a beautiful thing, both the music in itself, but maybe even moreso you three coming together and making this together.
