gentle friend

for Michael, and for you. heart

a dear friend had to say goodbye to his sweet old cat this week. i found the pictures he shared & the story of how they had chosen each other to be very moving. i wanted to send over a hug in song form, and really enjoyed working on this during the week with that intention. seems like a lot of us have been processing loss in some form lately, so i hope this might offer a little comfort or at least a foot tap (wearing socks, of course).  smile

gentle friend, i see you over there
both of you in tune and wearing socks
she chose you, of course she did
gentle friend, you are loved
gentle friend, you are loved

gentle friend, i see you over there
lying with your face against the ground
i wish i could say it will get easier
i wish i could say you'll move on
i hope it helps to know that she chose you
and gentle friend, you are loved

This gentle hug is very moving. Nicely layered the guitars and beautifully performed the lyrics. The beat is tasty in stereo and sits excellent in the mix. Best wishes to your friend.

makes me think of yo la tengo or something, got me feeling warm inside and my head boppin!

This reminds me of this British band from late '90s - early '00s called "Hood", playing sort-of alternative, sort-of shoegaze, sort-of post rock. Delicate yet moving!

I really love the guitar parts in this, so groovy.  Very much a listen to this on repeat while dancing through the kitchen with a mop handle song...ᕕ(⌐■_■)ᕗ ♪♬

Loss is never easy, but a sonic hug like this is always welcome.  Great overall sound and I like the whistling at the end.

love it. production and performances are spot on.

What a gift smile The main drum beat is so cool, and the variations are well chosen to suit the song. Really enjoyed the melodies and vocal delivery. Foot is tapping away smile

I like those guitars. Signing is pretty good too. Life goes on.

Well done.

Something about this track is bringing me back to my musical tastes from way back. Great production, vocals, guitar parts — all around awesome!

warm and wonderful ode to your friend's late feline friend. heart well done

This is such a beautiful song and story. My condolences to your friend. I hope this tune can help them through the grief.

What a wonderful, heartfelt song-

Absolutely beautiful piece. It's a warm musical breeze of spring.

Lovely song, makes me happy with good feels and smiles. Great use of the drum parts. I love my cats and dog. The gentlest of friends. This is a good warm hug, with and without socks. It's almost no sock weather, yay! And its always gentle friend weather!

It's a great song structure and worldview. I like the atmosphere of this song.

iconic drumbeat. love the vibe.

ugh losing a pet is the worst. Such a wonderful tribute and great song on top of the meaning.

Beautiful! Impeccable production and song writing. heart

much appreciated! i've been whistling with the birds when it's warm enough to open the windows so i thought it might be fun to double that keyboard part with some whistles.

I was gonna try and give some extensive musical comments but dang the lyrics got me in the feels real quick.  Scuse me while I look for tissues.  The quiet interlude with the casio is a nice touch too.  PS The Rutabega "Lip" played on my random list the other day when I was in the grocery store.  I was like "heyyyy i know that voice!

Thank you for this, what a wonderful piece of music, great lyrics and you have such a nice voice to execute those lyrics.  I think everyone can relate to this song in some way.

i really appreciate that, Jason.

i like the chorus on the percussion a lot, hits the lows and highs and nicely bookends the guitar. great playing here!
