M8: Degen

Unhappy this has to be my submission this week. Started on this synthwave thing, but didn't get anywhere. Prepared a jam on my Polyend Tracker + Korg Monologue, but then I turned the wring knob and lost the whole patch.

Ok, ok, I admit playing a few rounds of Battlefield instead. Next week will be better.

I like it!

This sounds HUGE―I'd never have imagined how much I'd dig atmospheric synthwave before I joined WB.

1. This is tragic  2. The Polyend Tracker only has that one knob

I'm digging it - reminds me of the Wang Chung 'To Live and Die in LA' sound track

I'mma reach out for more context about that Tracker/Monologue patch loss, sounds like there's a lesson I should be aware of.

The bass is dope, the breaks subtly doing highlights is the highlight for me. My only bullshit $0.02 is that the build up between 1:25 into those breaks around 1:48 would work better w/ a four-on-the-floor during the build up for more contrast. heart

I really like what's going on here, it's dark, it's broody, and it's atmospheric. Really curious what it's supposed to be though.

First of all, thanks for the suggestion, I think I agree. I really just given up on building the track. I only posted because I have nothing else wink

As for the Korg losing work. I only ever owned two pieces of gear, the Electribe and the Monologue. Both feature a patch selector where you quickly go between presets. On the Electribe they were aware of it being a terrible 'lose work' knob and allowed to hide that behind a modifier key, but the Monologue will just throw away everything as soon as you reach for the wrong knob.

oh no that's so frustrating!

i like this piece... it's very cinematic

jimmac on the witness stand:
"the gear messed up!"

*judge gives jimmac a dirty look*

"ok ok ok i was also playing battlefield"

"GUILTY!  Sentenced to write a song a week for the rest of the year!  No chance for parole!"

*jimmac cries*
